Our Hasti school is celebrating this year as a *maths year  The intention is to   make subject interesting for learners ,to  eliminate the maths phobia and to reduce the anxiety*.

As a first step  Our Hasti school has inducted *Maths joke of the day ,making of learning aid like *Maths clocks , Ganitachi Palkhi  , Ganitiya Ganpati,   riddle , question of the day,  Mental mathematics, maths project  etc. which will be a yearlong project.  We intend to make our children maths friendly  and well acquainted with the subject mathematics .

However children & parents as well  are see  to have  tremendous  anxiety about the subject .

in this blog making attempts to  learn and think  about  what , where ,why and how of maths anxiety

Math anxiety or fear of math is actually quite common.

Math anxiety, like test anxiety is quite similar to stage fright. Why does someone suffer stage fright? Fear of something going wrong in front of a crowd?  Fear of forgetting the lines? Fear of being judged poorly? Fear of going completely blank?

Math anxiety conjures up fear of some type. The fear that one won’t be able to do the math or the fear that it’s too hard or the fear of failure which often stems from having a lack of confidence. For the most part, math anxiety is the fear about doing the math right, our minds draw a blank and we think we’ll fail  and of course the more frustrated and anxious our minds become, the greater the chance for drawing blanks. Added pressure of having time limits on math tests and exams also cause the levels of anxiety grow for many students.

Where Does Math Anxiety Come From?

Usually math anxiety stems from unpleasant experiences in mathematics. Typically math phobics have had math presented in such a fashion that it led to limited understanding.

Unfortunately, math anxiety is often due to poor teaching and poor experiences in math which typically leads to math anxiety*. Many of the students I’ve encountered with math anxiety have demonstrated an *over reliance on procedures in math as opposed to actually understanding the math.

When one tries to memorize procedures, rules and routines without much understanding, the math is quickly forgotten and panic soon sets in. Think about your experiences with one concept — the division of fractions. You probably learned about reciprocals and inverses. In other words, ‘It’s not yours to reason why, just invert and multiply’. Well, you memorized the rule and it works. Why does it work? Do you really understand why it works ? Did anyone ever use pizzas or math manipulatives to show you why it works* ? If not, you simply memorized the procedure and that was that. Think of math as memorizing all the procedures – what if you forget a few? Therefore, with this type of strategy, a good memory will help, but, what if you dont’ have a good memory. Understanding the math is critical. Once students realize they can do the math, the whole notion of math anxiety can be overcome. Teachers and parents have an important role to ensure students understand the math being presented to them.

Myths and Misconceptions

None of the following is true !

•           You’re born with a math gene, either you get it or you don’t.

•           Math is for males, females never get math!

•           It’s hopeless, and much too hard for average people.

•           If the logical side of your brain isn’t your strength, you’ll never do well in math.

•           Math is a cultural thing, my culture never got it !

•           There’s only one right way to do math.

Overcoming Math Anxiety

1.         A positive attitude will help. However, positive attitudes come with quality teaching for understanding which often isn’t the case with many traditional approaches to teaching mathematics.

2.         Ask questions, be determined to ‘understand the math’. Don’t settle for anything less during instruction. Ask for clear illustrations and or demonstrations or simulations.

3.         Practice regularly, especially when you’re having difficulty. Take good notes or use journals effectively.

4.         When total understanding escapes you, hire a tutor or work with peers that understand the math. You can do the math, sometimes it just take a different approach for you to understand some of the concepts.

5.         Don’t just read over your notes – do the math. Practice the math and make sure you can honestly state that you understand what you are doing.

6.         Be persistent and don’t over emphasize the fact that we all make mistakes. Remember, some of the most powerful learning stems from making a mistake. Learn from mistakes.

Find out more about the myths of doing math and you too will overcome math anxiety. And, if you think making mistakes is a bad thing, look again. Sometimes the most powerful learning stems from making mistakes. Find out how to learn from your mistakes.

what the 3 most common errors in math and remedies

When you are learning a new skill, do you do it perfectly the very first time? Do you know all the answers before you even begin? Of course not! The same is true of math. Learning math requires practice, and making mistakes is part of the process.  making mistakes in math is a good thing, and can help kids learn and understand more deeply.

3 Types of Math Errors:

As I’ve thought about the different mistakes students of all ages make as they solve math problems, I’ve narrowed them down to 3 categories:

•           Careless Errors

•           Computational Errors

•           Conceptual Errors

Careless Errors:

Careless errors occur simply because they are not paying attention, or are working too fast. Some examples might be:

•           Copying the problem wrong to begin with

•           Writing a wrong number

•           Dropping a negative sign

•           Sloppy handwriting

•           Not following the directions

•           Typing it wrong into their calculator

Computational Errors:

The second type of mistake is computational. This means somewhere in the process they incorrectly added, subtracted, multiplied or divided.

Making one computational mistake in a multi-step problem means the rest of their work will be wrong and the final solution wrong.

As a classroom teacher,  always ask  students to show all their steps

Conceptual Errors:

Conceptual errors occur because kids have misunderstood the underlying concepts or have used incorrect logic. This is the most difficult type of error to identify at first glance. This is also the most difficult type of error for students to recognize, but it is the most important to catch and correct.

When students make conceptual errors, it’s possible that all the math computations are correct. If they’ve misunderstood a concept and thus used an incorrect method to solve, they can work out each step meticulously and correctly but still get the wrong answer.

 example:

When learning how to calculate surface area and volume of 3D shapes, students are often given a list of formulas without any explanation of the formulas. So when given the following problem,

Find the total volume of a rectangular prism with base side lengths of 6 inches and whose height is 8 inches.

Knowing the formula is V=Bxh, students will often solve this by simply multiplying 6×8. Even if they multiply correctly, this shows that they do not understand what volume is measuring, or that they have to find the area of the base.

be confident , understnd the concept than to memorise and learn from mistakes these three will help you in overcoming your anxiety…

Our Hasti school’s Communication policy

Hasti Public School & Junior College*, DONDAICHA

Communication is a key component to have a fantastic and satisfying  life * at our  Hasti school .

Communication in our work place is  important because it boosts  morale, engagement, productivity, and satisfaction*.

Communication is also key for better team collaboration and cooperation. Ultimately, effective communication helps drive better results for individuals, teams, and 0ur school organization.

To take it a step further, specifically for we teachers who are  a class room manager, building good communication skills has profound short- and long-term benefits for your organization.

An effective communicator is able to motivate their team to get more done with better results and fewer misunderstandings. And who doesn’t want fewer misunderstandings?

All of these  can contribute to the school’s  success — and  to your own personal success as a leader also .

It is essential that administrators, teachers, parents, staff, and students have a clear line of communication.

This is a sample of our Hasti school’s  school communication policy that will assist in keeping clear communication lines with the entire school community.

Communication Tips

No matter who you are talking with—students, parents, teachers, or the principal—it helps to be courteous, professional, and well prepared.

Written communications should always be proofread and written or typed neatly.

How Teachers Will Communicate With Parents and Guardians

Written Form

•           All teachers will send home a form letter to each student’s parents introducing yourself, highlighting your class, contact information, goals you have for the year, etc. The letter will be sent home on the first day of school.

•           All letters or notes to parents should be proofread by at least two other faculty members before the note is sent home.

•           After the letters have been proofread by two faculty members, they need to be sent to the principal for final approval.

•           A copy needs to be sent to  and kept  in that student’s file of each letter or note sent home to that student’s parents.

•           All written communication should be professional, courteous, and have contact information to be sent  back in touch with the teacher.

•           Avoid the use of jargon.

•           If the letter/note is handwritten, make sure that it is legible. If it is typed, make sure that it is at least standard 12-point font.

Electronic Form

•           Copies should be printed and filed of any correspondence via electronic form.

•           Make sure that all text/graphics are large enough to be seen or read.

•           Avoid the use of jargon.

•           Be sure to run spell/grammar check on any electronic communications.

•           Only use electronic communications with parents who have expressed that it is the way they prefer to be contacted.

•

=You must log off your email every day before going home.

Phone

•           Be polite and courteous.

•           Before you make the call, write down everything you need to communicate( with that parent. Be organized with your thoughts.

•

•           Keep a phone log. Record the date, time, and reason for calling that parent.

•

•           Be direct and mindful of the parent’s time.

•

•           If the parent is unable to talk to you at that time, politely ask when would be a good time to call them again.

•

•           *If you receive a voice mail; identify who you are, what you are calling about, and leave information for them to return your phone cal*l.

Parent-Teacher Conferences /open day

•           Dress professionally.

•

•           Create a comfortable atmosphere. Don’t place a formal teacher’s desk between yourself and the parents. Use the same type of chair.

•

•           Be prepared! Have your agenda ready. Have materials available that show the good and/or bad of the student.

•

•           Always start the conference out with something positive.

•

•           Be attentive and listen.

•

•           Never talk about other students or teachers.

•

•           Avoid the use of jargon.

•

•           End the conference with something positive.

•

•           Let them know that you care about their child.

•

•           If the situation becomes difficult, call the office for assistance immediately.

•

•           Keep a conference journal. Record the date, time, reason, and key points discussed in the conference.

Thursday Folders: Notes, letters, graded papers, and pertinent information will be sent home every Thursday* with the students in a folder. The parent will take out and go through the papers, sign the folder, and return it back to the teacher the next day.

•

•           Progress reports from each teacher need to go out bi-weekly.

•

•           Each teacher should send four positive personal notes, make four positive phone calls, or a combination of both per week rotating through their homeroom roster.

•

•           All parents need to receive positive information regarding their child at least two times per nine weeks.

•

•           All correspondence with parents should be documented. Keep a file on hand for each student in your homeroom.

•

•           Do not discuss other students or teachers with parents. Be professionally mindful.

•

•           Develop a positive relationship with parents. Try to gain their trust and let them know that you have their child’s best interest in mind at all times.

•

•           Always avoid the use of jargon. Use language that will make the parents feel comfortable and at ease. Keep it simple!

Communications Within the School Community

•           Be sure to check your mailbox daily. I will be placing grant information, classroom activities and ideas, and other information in your boxes as it becomes available.

•           I am a hands-on principal. I think it is necessary for me to know what my teachers are doing in their classrooms. I will be visiting your classrooms several times per week.

•           I would like to have one-on-one meetings with every teacher at least two time per six weeks. I will use these meetings as an opportunity to see how you are doing, see if you have any needs, and to listen to ideas that you might have.

•           I have an open-door policy. Feel free to  come  to my  office and discuss issues with me whenever you need it. I am always happy to answer questions, make suggestions, and listen to my teachers.

•           You are always welcome to email me for anything. I will check my email several times each day and will respond to your email as quickly as possible.

•           If an issue or problem comes up after school. Please feel free to call me at home. I will do my best to address your needs as quickly and conveniently as possible.

•           If you know that you are going to be absent, please let V.P and section manager  know as soon as possible.

•           If an emergency happens after school hours, please call the section manager or principal at home as soon as possible.

•           You must fill out an absentee request form that is  leave application form  if you know you are going to be absent. If it is an emergency situation, then you must feel one out as soon as you return to school.

All teachers need to put a substitute packet together. The packet needs to be on file in the office. Be sure that you keep the packet up-to-date. The packet should include the following items:

Make sure that they are detailed, easy to follow, and state specifically what and when you want the substitute to do. Use the substitute lesson plan forms available in the office.

•           If you are including worksheets in the lesson plans, try to copy them off for the substitute if it is possible. If it is not possible, make sure that you leave the correct number of copies that they will need for each sheet                                                                                                      *   Communication With Students

•           All students are to be treated fairly and with respect. If you expect them to respect you, then you have to respect them.

•           You need to have an open-door policy with all of your students. Let them know that they can trust you. Allow them the opportunity to come in, talk to you, ask you questions, and voice their concerns and opinions.

•           It is our job to provide students with optimal opportunities to learn. We need to create an atmosphere that fosters learning and enhances a student’s ability to do such.

•           All students regardless of race, color, or gender should be given equal opportunities and fair treatment by their teachers, administrators, and peers.

•

•           All students should be encouraged to ask questions, and all teachers need to provide an accurate of response as possible.

•

•           All teachers should have every student’s best interest in mind. if we follow this policy in letter and spirit we can see very positive change

ENGLISH OR SPOKEN ENGLISH *

In this blog, I am sharing my thoughts related to learning Spoken English,

this is my personal point of view and you can totally disagree with it, but i will be happy if it benefits some people.

Learning to speak English is a big business in our country. Especially * it has a little more craze in smaller cities. You will see ads related to English Speaking everywhere, ” * Learn to speak English in 90 hours,, *Join XYZ School of Language ” etc* for fluent English.

But are these schools really that effective? Maybe not! Because they already set wrong expectation! It is very difficult to speak a language easily by learning only 90 hours. Yes, it is possible that after going there for a few days, you will become a little more fluent than before,

So let’s first share with you some myths related to speaking English

1. Grammar should be good to speak English : This is a very big myth, you yourself think that when you learned to speak Hindi / Marathi, did you know about nouns, pronouns, etc.? Did not know, because it was not needed at all, you just learned by watching and listening to others. Similarly, knowledge of Grammar is not necessary to speak English.

2.English can be learned to speak in a few days : Wrong ! It takes time to learn any language other than your native language. How long will it take, it will differ person to person. But I believe that if someone already knows a little bit of English and makes a dedicated effort, then he can learn to speak good English in 6 months. And if you are still learning then don’t learn improvised, learn good English.

3. Only those who study English Medium can speak good English: This is also wrong. Talking about myself, my friend has studied in Hindi Medium, but today he works as a Senior Consultant and writes and speaks very good English.

4.It is necessary to have a good vocabulary to speak English : No, the vocabulary is as good as it is, but generally the words spoken in common-speak, you will already know or a little hard work By this you will know them. Actually, the words we know are just a matter of placing them in the right place.                                                                                                                                           *                                                                                                                                                                                                                                       12 Ideas to Learn Spoken English

1. Make your environment English : The one thing that is most important in learning any language is our environment*, our environment. After all, how do we start speaking our only language at a young age :- Because 24X7 we live in an environment where the same language is spoken, read and heard. That is why if we want to learn to speak English, then we should make our environment as English as possible. For this you can do something like this:

Start reading English Newspaper instead of Hindi newspaper.

Listen to English songs instead of Hindi songs.

Watch English programs / movies of your interest.

Make your room as English as you can….English posters, Hollywood actors,English books,Cds..whatever it is, make it English.

                                                                                                                                                                          ,

2. Create a group with people who want to learn spoken English like you : Find some friends who want to learn to speak English like you. If there is someone like this in your house, then it is even better. But if not, find such people, and the closer they are to your home, the better. Talk to such friends as much as possible and only in English. Yes, if you want, you can do the same thing on mobile. ,

 3. Make a Mentor: Mentor someone who knows English well, a friend of yours, a relative, a neighbor, an English-learning institute….Anyone who is ready to help you . You need to get as much help as you can from your mentor. Even if you do not get a mentor, there is no need to be disappointed, you continue in your efforts, getting a mentor would have been easy for you, but even if you do not get it, you can learn this language with your own efforts. ,                                                                                                    *

 4. Do not try to speak correct English from the very first day * : If you do this then you will be entangled in the matter whether you are speaking right or wrong. For the first one or two months without any tension that came in the mouth, do not think that you are grammatically correct or not. It is important that you gradually remove your hesitation. ,                                                                                 *

 5. Be alert for learning English : Although I give credit for my spoken English to my school, I have learned a lot because of my alertness for English also. When I used to watch an English program on TV, I used to pay attention to how words are being pronounced, and how any word is being used in a sentence. Apart from this * I had also made a diary to learn new words, in which I used to write the words which I did not understand while reading the newspaper, and using that a sentence was also made, it would have been easy to remember the meaning of the word.                                                                                                   *                                                    .

6. * Read loudly or read  by speaking * : Every day you * alone or in your group read any article or story of English in loud voice. By reading aloud, your pronunciation will be correct, and confidence in speaking will also increase. ,                                                *

 7. Use Mirror : I knew how to speak English but I also lacked fluency, to correct it, I often used to stand alone in front of the mirror and speak in English. And still, if I have to give a presentation or interview, then I prepare myself by practicing in front of the mirror once or twice. You also use the mirror present in your home to improve your spoken English. * The biggest advantage of speaking in front of the mirror is that you will not have any hesitation and you see yourself as an enjoyment, do not make it a burden for yourself .                                                                                                                                         *                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                *Start thinking in English : When a person thinks something in his mind, naturally he thinks only in his own language. But since you are committed to learning English, then whatever you think in your mind, think in English also. Know that these small efforts of yours will reach you to your destination faster.

10. Read such things which are very easy to understand: Children’s English comics can help you, the pictures given in it will help you to understand the story and the simple sentence formation will also help you to grasp the sentences spoken in common speech. will give.

11. Use Internet : You should make full use of Internet to learn Spoken English. * Videos available on YouTube can help you a lot For correct pronunciation and meaning you can visit TheFreeDictionary.Com can make use of. *AchhiKhabar.Com

But the given quotes can also help you *,

Also you can know the precious thoughts of great men.

12. Don’t loose the interest : Mostly it happens that people start learning English with great enthusiasm and passion. They do most of the things that I mentioned above, but the problem is that everyone wants to go to their comfort zone. Your comfort zone is Hindi, so after a few days she will pull you towards her side and your environment will also support her from above. That’s why you have to show some courage here, keep your interest and your enthusiasm. For this * you put some innovation in your activities related to English. For example: If you are tired of talking on everyday serious topics, then talk on some abstract topic, or filmy masala, (an English movie, or anything else that comes to your mind. You can also take a break of the day, and can start your mission again with renewed vigor.

 Use your Television

My friend’s 3 year old nephew was watching Chhota Bheem cartoon with great pleasure, I noticed that the language of the channel is set to English. I think this is a good way to learn English, cartoons made for kids have simple language and the accompanying animation makes it easy to understand. You can also use this method. Apart from this, you can also see such channels in which subtitles come. This will also help you in learning the language.

English is a universal language, it is spoken by billions of people all over the world, so think only you can do the work that billions of people can do, why can’t you *!!! Just remember that *the easiest way to learn to speak English is to “speak English” and that’s why you should stay with as many people as you can in English. Eliminate your hesitation and take advantage of every such opportunity where you are getting a chance to speak English.

Should students get home work?

HASTI PUBLIC SCHOOL & JR.COLLEGE,DONDAICHA*

BLOG NO*158

*omework is a word that most students dread hearing*. After hours upon hours of sitting in class, the last thing we want is more schoolwork over our precious weekends.

While it’s known to be a staple of traditional schooling, homework has also become a rather divide topic. Some feel as though homework is a necessary part of school, while others believe that the time could be better invested.

Basically we are focusing on wrong question *question isn’t whether kids should have homework or not? but  It’s more about *what kind of homework students get  and how much.

To be effective, homework has to meet students’ needs. For example, some middle school teachers have found success with online math homework that’s adapted to each student’s level of understanding. But when middle school students were assigned more than an hour and a half of homework, their math and science test scores went down.

some teachers  are of the opinion that on line or home work  through app increases screen time which is not good for kids while

Many other teachers  say  *there is no screen time complaint  from parents so should be continue .are we waiting   for complaint from parents to change the decision*?

Researchers discovered that math and science homework may improve standardized test grades, but they found no difference in course grades between students who did homework and those who didn’t.

Parents  frequently seen  complaining  that a 30-minute homework assignment turns into a three-hour battle with their kids. “I think parents expect their children to have homework for which they need not have to look in to book and which will  stimulate al critical thinking.

Today,  it’s more important to know how to collaborate  to  solve problems , than it is to know specific facts.

Child psychologist Kenneth Barish wrote in Psychology Today that battles over homework rarely results  in a child’s improvement in school.

Children who don’t do their homework are not lazy,  but they may be frustrated,  they may  not find home work interesting.

For kids , “who have not understood the lesson or content  the homework is like  *running with a sprained ankle. It’s doable, but painful.”

We most of the time  believe that “kids are like vending machines*—*one side put  an assignment in , and  other side get to  learn.

one of the best known critic Kohn  calls homework as  ” the greatest  extinguisher of children’s curiosity that we have yet invented.”

Last year, the public schools in Marion County, Florida where grand son of my friend is studying ,  and many other schools decided on a no-homework policy for all of their elementary students. Instead, kids read nightly for 20 minutes.

So , Should students have homework? Calls for having Have a closer look into the arguments on both sides to decide for yourself.

Advantages of home work

1. Homework Encourages Practice

Many people believe that one of the positive effects of homework is that it encourages the discipline of practice..

2. Homework Gets Parents Involved Homework can be something that gets parents involved in their children’s lives  & it can also be a chance for bonding with parents .

3. Homework Teaches Time Management Homework is much more than just completing the assigned tasks. Homework can develop time management skills.

4. Homework Opens A Bridge Of Communication Homework creates a connection between the student, the teacher, the school, and the parents. It allows everyone to get to know each other better, and parents can see where their children are struggling.

5. Homework Allows For More Learning Time Homework allows for more time to complete the learning process. School hours are not always enough time for students to really understand core concepts

6. Homework Reduces Screen Time Although homework is usually undesired, it encourages better study habits and discourages spending time in front of the TV.

The Other Side: Why Homework Is Bad

1. Homework Encourages A Sedentary Lifestyle Children are already sitting long hours in the classroom, and homework assignments only add to these hours. Sedentary lifestyles can be dangerous and can cause health problems such as obesity.

2.Play ground time :- While classroom time is important, playground time is just as important. If children are given too much homework, they won’t have enough playtime, which can impact their social development and learning.

3. Homework Isn’t Healthy In Every Home

While many people that think homes are a beneficial environment for children to learn, not all homes provide a healthy environment,.

4. Homework Adds To An Already Full-Time Job School is already a full-time job for students, as they generally spend over 6 hours each day in class.

5. *Homework Has Not Been Proven to Provide Results*Endless surveys have found that homework creates a negative attitude towards school, and homework has not been found to be linked to a higher level of academic success.

6.The positive effects of homework have not been backed up enough. While homework may help some students improve in specific subjects, if they have outside help there is no real proof that homework makes for improvements.

7.. one of the major reasons as to why homework is bad is Many students would rather cheat in class to avoid doing their homework at home*, and children often just copy off of each other or from what they read on the internet.

8.. Homework Assignments Are Overdone. it can increase stress levels and lead to burn out. This in turn provides an opposite effect when it comes to academic success.

The pros and cons of homework are both valid, and it seems as though the question of ‘‘should students have homework?’ is not a simple, straightforward one. Parents and teachers often are found to be clashing heads, while the student is left in the middle without much say.

Our Hasti school being child center is concentrating and collaborating on what and how of homework

rather than whether   –   should homework be given ?

please express your views and give hour feed back…

Positive Behaviour for Learning(PBL)

Help students learn positive behaviors by shifting your language.

Positive Behaviour for Learning (PBL) is implemented at our Hasti school  to improve the learning and wellbeing of all students .

If  PBL introduced and implemented effectively  the teachers and students have more time to focus on relationship and classroom instructions. Students and staff benefit from as

1.it reduces in appropriate behaviour

2.there is increased time focused on instruction

3.there is improved social -emotional wellbeing

4.there is positive and respectful relationship among students and staff

5.it creates predictable learning environment where staff and  students know what is expected to deliver effective practices that can be sustained over time

Successful implementation requires the commitment of the whole school community and support of the principal and executive teachers to lead the process within the school

Specific attention to what needs to be done ,how it is done and why it is being done across the school is critical to create positive safe and  supportive learning environment. These include

1.developing and using a common vision, language and experience to support implementation of PBL

2.Stating clear expectations of students and staff.

3.collaborating with all staff to plan and implement having at least 80% of staff willing to support PBL

4.developing a team approach with regular meetings

5.creating ,reviewing and revising a plan of action

6.collecting and using data for decision making

The start of a new school year gives we teachers and students alike a clean slate, But, even with the best intentions, behavior can quickly go  waste  if we educators assume students already know what to do.

Bestselling author Mike Anderson says there’s one aspect of a teacher’s toolkit that’s paramount to effective classroom management: Words.

Positive language is a driving force in creating a classroom community that learns together, grows together, and supports one another.

1. CONVEY FAITH IN STUDENT ABILITIES

When our teacher language uses words and tones that display faith in student intentions, we show students that we believe in them. Using positive words and encouraging students to meet expectations allows students an opportunity to fulfill those expectations,

communicating to students that you believe in them and their abilities gives students the confidence they need to collaborate with others, become respectful listeners, and work competently by reiterating positive behaviors and encouraging all students to do the same.

Students learn best from discussing mistakes and having multiple opportunities to productively struggle. Consistent encouragement and support through this learning curve allows students to build confidence in their abilities and teaches them perseverance. ALWAYS PRACTICE POSITIVE VOCABULARY

In fact, even very minor shifts in language can have a profound impact on how students might feel about work.

In the following excerpt from Chapter 5 of What We Say and How We Say It Matter:   Teacher Talk That Improves Student Learning and Behavior, Anderson details how important positive shifts in language can be when setting expectation

At our Hasti school we emphasise more on what to do than on  “what not to do”

what not to do is challenging for listeners and they tend to do the same . In daily news reading we insist on reading and radiating positive news and thoughts only .

if  a kid was running, instead of calling out, “Don’t run!” we were to call out, “Walk!” This is important for two reasons. The first is that to state what not to do is to leave open the possibility for other improper ways  Kids might skip, leap, hop, or speed-walk.

By stating a positive direction, you are clearer about the expected behavior. The second reason has to do with tone. It is more positive to focus on positive expectations rather than on rule-breaking or misbehavior

To the child who was running, “Walk!” is a reminder about what to do, while “Don’t run!” is a public calling-out of improper behavior.

Additionally, when we state expectations in the positive, we show that we assume that students have the best of intentions, which helps set a respectful tone and climate of trust in the classroom.

Find hereunder the examples of emphasising positive behaviour and of emphasising empathy and kindness

 1. Emphasizing Positive Behaviors and Intentions

•           instead of saying( when we are walking out to the field today no would be hording around

Try this :- When we head out to the field today make sure to stay with your group and keep your hands to yourselves.

•           Instead of saying :-during a writing conference you should not just name all the mistakes that someone makes right?

Try this :-during writing conference make sure to point our things your partner did well and couple of ideas they could work on

•           Instead of saying:-it is getting too loud in here

Try this :-keep voices between a whisper and a regular talking voice

•           Instead of saying :-don’t play with the science materials they are tools not toys

Try this:-remember to use science material appropriately they need to stay on the table and only be used  for the demonstration

•           Instead of saying:-During our class meeting do not talk while others are talking its rude

Try this: During our class discussion let’s work having one person share at a time Rise your hand if you want to contribute the ide\

there  are times when we need to specifically name a negative behavior.  What if there’s something specific that we anticipate and want students to be aware of ahead of time? Certainly, this is sometimes the case. Part of effective classroom management is addressing them before they happen. So, let’s explore some ways we can be both proactive and positive—how we can assume best intentions instead of worst—even as we anticipate student mistakes. Notice how the language in  examples given hereunder  emphasizes empathy and kindness

.

•           Instead of saying :- “Iam going out of the room I don’t want to hear a report like I did last time .you should not get wild just because I am not there

Try this:-Remember how things got wild the last time I was out of the room? Today is a chance to try again .Let’s figure some things out and start with why it can be harder to stay relaxed when someone new comes in”

•           Instead of saying:- you better not light those Bunsen burners early

Try this :- it can be tempting to light Bunsen burners as soon as you get to your working table.for safety’s sake wait until I give you the go ahead

•           Instead of saying:- I better not see any fooling around during the concert this evening . you shouldn’t be talking to your neighour or waiving  to the people in the crowd

Try this :-it can be really hard not to talk to your neighbour or not to waive to people in the crowd during the concert .Remember that even when you are not performing the way you move is a part  of our whole performance

•           Instead of saying :- No running in to gym like of bunch of wild animals today.

Try this:-when we have been getting in to the gym, some kids have been running and sliding across the door as soon as door opens ,remember to walk to the circle area.

The Gem of Positivity

We know that when students are learning a new academic skill, whether it’s long division, writing a persuasive essay, or making a quick relay start on the track, they are going to need lots of modelling, practice, and gentle guidance.

We expect them to make mistakes and need coaching. We recognize that we won’t be able to just tell them what to do and expect that to be enough. So, when it comes to helping students learn positive behaviors, we should keep these same things in mind

using language  that is proactive and positive, clear and direct, firm and kind.

Giving wings to the aspirations of students

HASTI PUBLIC SCHOOL & JR.COLLEGE,DONDAICHA

BLOG NO*156

Aspirations have no end. And with globalization being the next world , it’s everyone’s dream to be a global citizen empowered with global knowledge*.

But turning this dream into reality is no easy feat, even if it is finalizing a school or university  in our country or abroad.

With no or little knowledge about what fits our course, students  are mostly inspired by the beautiful locations, popular universities and trending professions without even knowing what is best for us.

Senior Secondary years (XI & XII) are full of learning and new experiences for all the students. This is the time that they start working towards their college planning and their career goals.

There are several parameters based on which the admission committee takes its decision, including the academic scores, standardised exam scores, research potential, work experience (part-time/community service and leadership).

However, the competition is incredibly high and student may require unique student profile(USP)  in their candidature to clear the admission process of these universities.

and Here’s why you need a strong student profile to apply to top universities.

1.  to show your  competency beyond classroom and  beyond academic achievement

The application form used to apply to UG courses at universities in the United States, a section in the form asks to enlist various activities during the high school period which may range from volunteer work, hobbies to sports and clubs.

The list helps universities understand the applicant beyond the classroom and academics.

2. Demand for scholarships

One of the strongest reasons to build a top-quality profile is to get scholarship. Various universities offer the best possible scholarships enabling the students to rest on their ability to serve community and bring about a positive change.

The scholarship test is based on leadership, academic achievements and extracurricular activities.

3. Stand out from the crowd, be unique

Universities look up to candidates who have fought against all the odds to reach success, those who have taken the toughest challenges in life or have been able to show their passion towards their objectives while managing their academic interests as well.

While extracurriculars are essential, all the top universities also have the best students applying for admissions with excellent scores in  other entrance exams. So,  to stand out in a crowd of outstanding applicants, you as a school student in between Class 9 to Class 12 or as an ongoing graduation student need to show how you are different.

A quality higher education is integral for those who want to create successful careers in any field. We must start working on the profile of the students from as early as Grade 8.

profiles are created by the student, often with the support of those that know them best. Through creating a learner profile, students develop a deeper understanding of who they are as learners – reflecting on what motivates and challenges them when learning. Introducing them to various careers and the path that they need to follow to pursue a career of their choice. At grade 10 level, they have been guided with the selection of subjects’ basis their career aspirations and their interest in the subjects.

Charting out a career path once they have decided upon the subjects they wish to pursue in grades 11 and 12.

Along with academics, students must take up extra-curricular activities as per their interests to build a strong profile. Pursuing activities that are related to their career aspirations takes them closer to their dreams. How to build a strong student profile for applications to top universities and top colleges in india or abroad

A good profile imbibes confidence, enthusiasm and growth in candidates. Profile-building also helps the students maximizing their chances of securing an education in elite global and Indian institutions.

1. Map the batch profile of your desired university, understand the kind of qualities they are looking for.

2. Make a timeline-based activity calendar covering only those activities where students feel connected.

3. Community service should not be treated as an activity. Make it a passion to help people.

4. Your interest in the subject that you want to apply for should be thoroughly visible in your actions.

5. The last three years before you send your applications should have energy, enthusiasm and a positive intent that is visible on your resume.

The sole aim of having a good profile is to make your application looks more desirable to admission officers.

That could only happen if the students  have a solid understanding of profile* construction. Remember, a profile determines if you make it or break it in your applications to study ahead

Parents who have sown the seeds of aspirations early on, see visible results and transformation in their child from grade 11 onwards. Students are required to demonstrate visible progress in all the activities that they might have taken up in Grades 7 or  8.

Every child who comes to Hasti school  with the dreams of a bright future ahead gets every opportunity to shine on and move closer to their goals.

At Our Hasti school , it is all about “Being Ambitious”. We train the students to take risks and become expert problem solvers.

From an early age, at Hasti school students they are exposed to different types of curricular , co curricular and extra curricular activities  and students get to interact and compete with students from other  schools across .this helps them in building their academic and non-academic profiles. which is  balanced profile.

Before guiding students in making of profile our Hasti school takes care of career guidance right from middle school level.  *Principal Hasti World school Mr.Gangurde and  and vice principal Mr.Arun patil sir conduct career guidance sessions for the students of Hasti public school , Hasti Gurukul and Hasti world school.

Tips for reducing carbon footprint

HASTI PUBLIC SCHOOL & JR.COLLEGE,DONDAICHA

BLOG NO*153

Our Hasti school is the one of the few schools to take awareness programme on the threat of Global warming and carbon foot printing . A webinar was organised for awakening on this most important topic. Our faculty members  then decided to keep record of their those  *activities which help to reduce the carbon foot print,  and resolved to use the carbon foot print calculator to measure the emission of carbon and how much carbon emission is saved in the activity.

Children at school need to  be educated on this issue and if motivated to reduce the carbon emission through their activities then it  will bring great positive change.

.The carbon footprint is a very important means to understand the impact of a person’s behavior on global warming. This is why someone who effectively wants to contribute to stopping global warming, at least on an individual scale, needs to *measure and keep track of their personal carbon footprint.

A carbon footprint is the total amount of greenhouse gases (including carbon dioxide and methane) that are generated by our actions .The average carbon footprint for a person in the United States is 16 tons, one of the highest rates in the world. Globally, the average carbon footprint is closer to 4 tons. To have the best chance of avoiding a 2℃ rise in global temperatures, the average global carbon footprint per year needs to drop to under 2 tons by 2050.

Lowering individual carbon footprints from 16 tons to 2 tons doesn’t happen overnight ! By making small changes to our actions, like Not eating meat, taking fewer connecting flights and *line drying our clothes, we can start making a big difference.

Do you want to do your part in helping the environment but don’t know how? Well, have no fear! Reducing the carbon footprint is a lot easier than you think. And we’re here to show you how! In this blog ,will show  you some simple ways of reducing your family’s carbon footprint. You don’t have to make massive lifestyle changes to make a difference. Every little bit helps! Just follow these simple tips, and you’ll be well on your way to making a difference. So Let’s get started! Every one and every family may and should try following  for reducing carbon foot print.

1. Switch to LED light bulbs

One of the easiest ways of reducing the carbon footprint of your family is to switch to LED light bulbs. LED bulbs use less energy and last longer than traditional incandescent bulbs, so you’ll save money on your electricity bill and won’t have to replace them as often. You can find LED bulbs at most hardware stores or online.

2. Drive less

Another easy way of reducing the carbon footprint of your family is to drive less. If you can, walk or ride your bike instead of driving. You can also carpool with friends or take public transportation when possible.

3. Recycle and compost

Recycling and composting are great ways of reducing the carbon footprint. Recycling helps in reducing the carbon footprint of your family by 3%. Composting helps in reducing methane gas emissions by 25%. So, recycle and compost whenever possible to help in reducing the carbon footprint of your house.

4. Save energy

Saving energy is another great way of reducing the carbon footprint. *Turn off lights when you leave a room and unplug appliances when you’re not using them. You can also save energy by using energy-efficient light bulbs and appliances.

5. Plant trees

Planting trees is a great way to offset your carbon footprint. Trees absorb carbon dioxide and other greenhouse gases, which helps to improve air quality. Planting trees can also help to cool your home in the summer and reduce energy costs.

6. Avoid excessive consumption

One of the best ways to reduce the carbon footprint is to consume less simply. Try to avoid excessive consumption of energy, water, and other resources when you need to purchase new items; try to choose products made from recycled materials or that are environmentally friendly.

7. Do not use plastic bags or polythenes

Plastic bags and polythenes are made from petroleum. They take hundreds of years to decompose and release harmful chemicals into the environment. If you must use them, recycle them. Better yet, invest in reusable shopping bags made from recycled materials.

8. Save water

Water is essential for life, but it is also a limited resource. You can help conserve water by using less of it when you brush your teeth, take shorter showers, and water your plants during the cooler hours of the day. You can also install low-flow fixtures in your home to further reduce your water consumption.

9. Volunteer

Volunteering is a great way to give back to your community and make a difference in the world. *You can volunteer for a local environmental organisation, help clean up a local park or mentor a child.

10. Educate yourself and others about environmental issues

One of the best ways to help the environment is to educate yourself and others about the problems facing our planet. Read books and articles, watch documentaries, and talk to your friends and family about the environment. The more people are aware of the issues, the more likely we are to find solutions.

Why is reducing the carbon footprint important and essential?

1. To help reduce global warming

Carbon dioxide and other greenhouse gases trap heat in the atmosphere, making the planet warmer. This trapped heat is called the “greenhouse effect.” The greenhouse effect is natural and necessary to keep the Earth’s temperature livable. However, human activities like burning fossil fuels, like coal and oil, release extra carbon dioxide into the atmosphere. This extra carbon dioxide amplifies the greenhouse effect and makes the planet warmer than it should be.

2. To preserve our way of life

A warmer world doesn’t just mean higher temperatures. It also means more extreme weather, like more frequent and more intense hurricanes, floods, droughts, and wildfires. These weather events can damage infrastructure, disrupt transportation, and contaminate water supplies. They can also lead to the displacement of people, as we’ve seen with increased wildfires in the western U.S. and hurricanes on the Gulf Coast.

3. To protect wildlife

Climate change is a major threat to wildlife. As the planet warms, animals are forced to find new places to live that offer the right temperature, food, and other conditions they need to survive. But often these places are far from where they used to live, which can make it hard for them to find mates and have babies. Climate change can also cause animals to go extinct.

4. To grow food

Farms need the right climate to grow crops. But as the climate changes, it is becoming harder to predict when rains will come and how long droughts will last. This makes it hard for farmers to know when to plant their crops. And when extreme weather hits—like floods, heatwaves, or hurricanes—it can destroy entire crops, leaving people without food. Healthy food is a basic necessity.

5. To make things

Factories need stable conditions to produce goods. But as the climate changes, extreme weather is becoming more common. This can disrupt production, damage factories, and cause shortages of the things we depend on—like clothes, cars, and electronics.

Reducing your family’s carbon footprint can seem like a daunting task, but these parenting responsibilities don’t have to be difficult. By making small changes in the way you live and working together as a family, you can drastically reduce your environmental impact. We hope these tips have given you some ideas about how to get started. Remember, reducing the carbon footprint of your family is not only good for the environment, but it’s also good for your wallet! Are there any other ways that you’ve found of reducing the carbon footprint of your family? *please give feed back

You’ve probably heard of oobleck, that weird slime-like substance made from cornstarch and water. But did you know that it can also dance? All you need is a speaker (and turn on volume near to max. ) and some oobleck. The oobleck jump and dance around. It’s like a little mini-rave right in your kitchen!

What’s happening? The sound waves from the speakers are causing the oobleck to vibrate. The cornstarch particles constantly move and bump into each other, making the oobleck act like a liquid. But when the sound waves hit it, the particles are forced apart, making the oobleck behave more like a solid. This is called shear thickening, and it’s pretty amazing to watch!

2. The Walking Water Rainbow

This one is so cool, you might not even believe it’s real. But we promise it is! All you need is some clear cups, water, food colouring, and paper towels.

Start by filling three cups with water. Add a different colour of food colouring to each cup. Then, cut three strips of paper towel long enough to reach from one cup to the next.

Dip one end of each strip of paper towel into a different cup of coloured water. Then, carefully lay the strips of paper towel across the three cups so that each strip is touching two cups of water.Let the strips soak for a few minutes to allow the colours to travel up the paper towels. Then, watch what happens when you lift one end of a strip of paper towel! The colours will mix where the paper towels touch, creating a new colour.*

You can conduct these science experiments with different colours and see what happens when you mix them together. What happens if you use two strips of paper towels? Or four? Try different combinations and see what colours you can create!

3. What is chromatography?

Chromatography is a process used to separate out the different components of a mixture. This can be done using various methods, but one standard practice is paper chromatography.

In paper chromatography, a mixture is separated by passing it through a piece of paper. The different components of the mixture will travel at different rates, depending on their size and how much they stick to the paper. This allows the different components to be separated.

You can conduct these science experiments with paper chromatography by using a coffee filter and some markers. Draw a line of each colour along the edge of the coffee filter. Then, dip the bottom of the filter into a cup of water. The water will travel up the filter and start to separate the different colours. You can see how far each colour travels and how much they mix. Paper chromatography is a standard method for separating mixtures of compounds*. It relies on the different rates at which the compounds travel through the paper.

4. Experiments for showing a Volcanic eruption

To create an experimental volcanic eruption you just need some ingredients that you can find around your house.

You need

– Baking soda– Vinegar– A clear plastic bottle– Red food colouring– Some small stones or gravel – A funnel (optional)– dish soap (optional)  First, add about 1/4 cup of baking soda to the bottle, then add a few red food colouring drops. Next, use the funnel (if you have one) to add 1/2 cup of vinegar to the bottle. You will see the baking soda and vinegar start to react with each other and fizz.

Suppose you don’t have a funnel, no worries. Just pour the vinegar into the bottle a little bit at a time. Once you have added all of the vinegar, add a squirt of dish soap. This will help the eruption last longer. Finally, add some small stones or gravel to the bottle. Now it is time for your eruption! Place the bottle on a hard surface and quickly step back. You may want to put on safety goggles at this point*! The mixture in the bottle is safe and non-toxic, but it can be messy. If you are doing these science experiments outside, it will be much easier to clean up.

5. Experimenting with a solar cooker To make a solar cooker, you will need:

-A large box -Black paint -Aluminum foil-A cardboard pizza box lid or another piece of flat, clear plastic -Tape -Scissors

Decide where you are going to put your solar cooker. It should be in a sunny spot where it will not be disturbed. Paint the large box black. This will help it absorb more heat from the sun. Cut a piece of aluminium foil to fit the inside of the box. Tape it to the bottom of the box. This will reflect sunlight up into the box. Cut a hole in the centre of the pizza box lid or piece of clear plastic. This will be your cooking surface. Place the lid or piece of plastic over the hole in the top of the large box. Tape it in place.

(Your solar cooker is now ready to use. Put whatever you want to cook inside the box, close the lid, or cover it with plastic. The sun will heat the air inside the box and cook your food. You can use your solar cooker for cooking all sorts of things, from hot dogs to baked potatoes. Remember that it will take longer to cook food in a solar cooker than in a regular oven or on a stove. So be patient and enjoy your delicious solar-cooked meal!
