According to the survey large chunk of our student  population is financially illiterate.

Financial literacy is the ability to use knowledge and skills to manage financial resources effectively for a lifetime of financial well-being.

The National Centre for Financial Education in 2019 conducted a survey and said that only 27 per cent of Indians are financially literate. Amongst the BRICS countries, financial literacy in India is the lowest.

Most of the parents give a piggy bank to their children in which they save their spare change, birthday money or cash gifts received from their relatives/ families. This concept helps them to maintain a discipline of saving. But financial markets are complex and are much beyond the concept of saving only. If children understand the concept of financial markets as per their age, this can prevent them from investing in wrong financial instruments later.

When children are aware of the concept, they can influence their families by sharing the knowledge on importance of savings and take necessary steps to better manage their money Thus, spreading the concept of financial literacy and creating financial awareness among children can be a great help.

There are many schemes or financial products which can be opened for children under the guardianship of parents

opening a savings account with a kid will help them not only understand the importance of saving but also investment.

Public Provident Fund (PPF) can be opened with a guardian only with Rs 100. After becoming adults, they can operate this account themselves. Although PPF account is for 15 years, this account can be extended indefinitely in a block of 5 years. After becoming adults, they can operate this account themselves.

A Sukanya Samridhi Yojana account can be opened for a girl child below 10 years. After the girl child becomes 10-year-old, they can operate the account themselves as well. Even investments through Systematic Investment Plan (SIP) can be made for a kid with a parent, and this can be a good replacement of “home -piggy bank” which we give to children and can help them in learning the saving and investment concept in the long run. There are several other financial products available which can be chosen as per the needs of the family.

WHAT ROLE CAN TEACHERS PLAY IN CREATING AND SUSTAINING A JOYFUL CLASSROOM ENVIRONMENT AND SCHOOL COMMUNITY?

“To get the full value of joy you must have someone to divide it with.” —Mark Twain

There is no question that the experiences children have while at school have a deep and lasting impact on their attitudes toward learning and education.

Oftentimes children will spend more time with their teachers during the school week than they do with their parents and caregivers. With a typical school year lasting almost ten months, and a school day six to seven hours, the influence of educators on the students they teach cannot be ignored. As we enter the holiday season and a season of celebration, it is an important time to reflect on the role schools play in creating and sustaining joy.

Joy is defined as a feeling of great happiness, or a person or thing that is a source or cause of happiness. The question then is, what role can teachers play in creating and sustaining a joyful classroom environment and school community? There are many ideas that teachers can use to cultivate a classroom that is full of joy, the first and most important being mindset.

We Teachers must remember that mindset can change everything.  Choosing to fully embrace the opportunity to joyfully influence a student’s day, and your own, the classroom becomes a positive environment where happiness flows freely. With a positive classroom environment, students may encounter academic challenges with more acceptance and determination. Furthermore, studies indicate ( through brain imaging ) that positive emotions are vital to effective learning and that instructional styles that support positive emotions have been correlated with more effective cognitive processing which can inspire critical thinking and flexibility.

Throughout the day teachers can choose to bring back joy in the classroom. First they must make a concerted effort to know their students and continually work to build deep meaningful relationships that give students the feeling of belonging. Research proves that belonging is a major component of happiness and that with it building strong teacher-student relationships is critical. Teachers can provide students with choices, empowering them as active participants in their learning and helping them become independent learners. Teachers can play music and offer movement breaks to meet their students’ needs based on the age and grade level they teach.

Teachers can take learning outside and give students a chance to get out of the classroom, especially on a sunny day. Outdoor education and play supports emotional, behavioral and intellectual development, and students who learn outdoors develop a sense of self, independence, confidence, creativity, decision-making and problem-solving skills, empathy towards others, motor skills, self-discipline and initiative. Taking learning outdoors provides a change of pace from the classroom, which both students and teachers enjoy adding to a feeling of joy and contentment.

Our schools must be places of joy. As Twain said, joy is best experienced divided or shared; shared between students and teachers, collaborating co-workers, teachers and families. What will you do to set your mind on joy and give joy a chance again in your classroom?

A project is an activity in which a student chooses a subject related to the school subject curriculum and considers his / her age, comprehension, surroundings and readily available project materials to achieve further objectives.

Projects are an easy way to integrate literacy and creativity into learning and assessment. Projects are inherently flexible, including personal or group work. Projects are optional assignments that will help improve student grades.

The old-school model of passively learning facts and reciting them out of context is no longer sufficient to prepare students to survive in today’s world. Solving highly complex problems requires that students have both fundamental skills (reading, writing, and math) and 21st century skills (teamwork, problem solving, research gathering, time management, information synthesizing, utilizing high tech tools). With this combination of skills, students become directors and managers of their learning process, guided and mentored by a skilled teacher.

                                                                                                                                                                                                               For Parents

As you know, school projects are not just assignments for the student. It is an opportunity for the parent, to come alongside your student and teach and refine his or her skills.

It is a time that you can be intentional as you coach and give advice. You do not complete the project.

You guide and teach in a one-on-one environment that cannot be simulated in a school setting.

It gives you the opportunity to hone in on areas that you may see needs strengthening in your child.

As the primary educator, a project-based learning activity at home gives you a wonderful opportunity to build relevant skills and habits for future day-to-day living because real, adult life is filled with one project after another.

So the next time your child brings home a project assignment, take on a new outlook by remembering these four things:

1.      Your child not only is expanding his or her knowledge of a particular topic but also is developing and learning how to                 *        research, manage time, persevere, be creative, critically think, follow directions, and more!

2.      He or she needs you as a coach, but you are not the player.

3.     Projects give you and your child the opportunity for meaningful conversation and time together.

4.      Your child is building skills that he or she will apply and build on in the future, both as a student and as an adult.

SCHOOL PROJECTS CAN GIVE THE GIFTED CHILD THE OPPORTUNITY TO DIVE DEEPER AND CHALLENGE THEMSELVES IN AN ACADEMIC AREA WHILE ALSO ALLOWING THE STUDENT THAT STRUGGLES WITH WRITTEN TESTS TO REVEAL THE ACQUIRED KNOWLEDGE IN A HANDS-ON, CREATIVE WAY.”

Maths phobia and

At our Hasti school we organize Mathematics Rangoli competition ,quiz competition and many other activities to generate interest in the subject Mathematics. In this article we are inviting parents to involve your wards in the following 7 important activities

Children very often ask a question as : When am I ever going to use Math? The truth is that we use math all the time!

It is pertinent to note how one experiences mathematical applications in daily life from the time one gets up from bed till one retires to bed

Be it a *cook or a farmer, a carpenter, a mechanic, a shopkeeper or a doctor, an engineer or a scientist , a musician or a magician, an artist or a tailor , everyone needs math in daily life.

Here are some daily tasks for which math are important

:

1.         Managing time: Keeping a track of time is very important to do all you love to do

2.         Budgeting: Managing money, understanding discounts, and buying for the best price

3.         Sports: Score, Time, Strategizing to win

4.         Cooking: Measuring the ingredients to add to a recipe, kitchen inventory planning

5.         Exercising and Dieting

6.         Driving: Distance traveled, the shortest route to take to reach a destination

7.         Home Decorating

8.         Stitching: Measurements to stitch a dress

9.         Critical Thinking                                                                                   The Base of other subjects

However we will highlight 7 Examples of Everyday Math to Practice with

Baking and Cooking

Pull out your favorite recipe and let your student help you make something delicious. Along the way, you’ll see how often you work with fractions, addition, subtraction, and more . You need to get the measurements just right to make sure that the finished product turns out edible. If you want to give your student extra practice, try doubling or halving the recipe, too. This gets especially tricky when dealing with the fractions of teaspoons and tablespoons.

Managing Your Finances

Whether you’re balancing a checkbook or putting together a budget, it’s important to know how to use math to help you. Have your child help you pay bills, allowing them to add up the amount you need to pay. You could also have them calculate the average amount paid each month, or how many hours they would need to work to pay the bill if they received X amount of rupees  per hour.

Decorating Your Home

Purchasing new furniture takes a lot of math. First, you need to measure the space. Then, you need to figure out what kind of furniture you need to get to fill the space. How big should it be? What size should the furniture be? As you pick out the new pieces, you need to measure the doorways and angles to make sure that the furniture can get into the room, too.

On top of decorating with new furniture, you can use math when calculating how much flooring to purchase or measuring the wall space for a new picture collage. Whatever you decide to do, let your child help you with the decorating process to get a taste for everyday math.

Telling Time

Learning to tell time is part of the math curriculum. However, you also need to learn about fractions in order to tell others what time it is. For example, it’s important to know that a quarter of an hour is 15 minutes or that a half an hour is 30 minutes. Then, you know what people are talking about when they say, “It’s a quarter to 4.”

You may also find an understanding of math helpful to calculate time. Whether you’re trying to beat your mile time or deciding how long to grill a steak, you should know that there are 60 seconds in a minute, 60 minutes in an hour, and 24 hours in a day.

Shopping

Next time you go shopping, think about how often you use math. You need to calculate prices, quantities, your budget, and more. You need to think about coupons and discounts , figuring out how much the shirt costs if it’s 30% off of the original ticketed price. As you walk through the store, discuss the math with your child. Let them help you calculate the prices and figure out how much the total will be before the sales associate rings you up.

Planning a Trip

When planning a trip, there are lots of details involved. First off, *you need to think about your budget. Add together the cost of the hotel room, travel expenses, food, entertainment, and more. If you’re driving to your destination, have your student help you calculate the mileage and how much you should expect to pay in gas along the way. If you have a set budget, have your student help you work out the plan to stay within your budget and have money needed for extra expenses on the trip.

Enjoying Sports

Whether you’re playing or watching a sport, you may find yourself doing math without even knowing it . For example, you might say, “we’re down by 5” or “we need two touchdowns to win.” If you enjoy baseball, you can use math to calculate the batting averages, too. As you watch or play sports with your student, identify ways that math is used by the players and officials throughout the game.

It may be surprising for students to find out that there are examples of everyday math all around us. Help your child identify the ways math is used from day to day, so they can understand the importance of mastering the important math concepts.

How to Improve Student Learning Outcomes

With the advancement in technology and overall growth, there has been a constant dire need for improving the quality of education. The quality is measured on student learning outcomes

This is the reason why you come across such important notions like improving learning outcomes for students.

We all know that every child has unique learning experiences. They feel comfortable learning at their own pace. And it is important for US to understand the impact of learning outcomes for their future.

In today’s world, students are equipped with vast knowledge about advanced technology.

Sometimes students do not pay attention during the lectures. It is because of traditional teaching methods, lack of learning activities, disengagement, poor interaction and lack of communication.

Teachers should understand students’ interest and the need for effective learning. It is important to figure out what kind of activities they might be interested in learning.

We all know that the ultimate learning outcome is from the assessment.

If the assessment is conducted annually then it is difficult to identify their weaknesses and strengths for better learning outcomes.

Therefore regular and periodical tests ,tests after every chapter ,surprise tests , sunday tests, tests on the portion of the chapter etc.are basis of the measure of learning out come *at our Hasti schools.

How to Improve Student Learning Outcomes

In the age of the digital world, students can get easily distracted from learning if the process isn’t interesting. Teachers have to put a lot of effort into designing the curriculum in such a way that it enhances their learning outcomes.

It was observed that when technology was introduced in the classroom, there was an improvement in learning outcomes for students. The gradual change in teaching methods and incorporating digital technology in the classroom helps in improving the learning outcomes for the students.

Ways to Improve Learning Outcomes for Students

1 Outdoor Teaching

Earlier the education system used to have only traditional ways of teaching and learning. All the students used to sit in the classroom for 6-7 hours a day attending continuous lectures. But have you thought about their mindset towards learning? Whether they are able to concentrate or interested in listening to the lectures for long periods of time. If not, then why is it reflecting in their learning outcomes?

So these questions have to be  addressed by teachers to improvise their strategies on providing better learning outcomes for students. Have ever you thought about taking lectures outside the classroom? It really helps students to involve themselves with the surrounding environment. You should take students to field trips, museums, *exhibitions  conduct classes in the lawn of the school premises

. Sometimes these changes of place can help students to concentrate on learning and develop questioning skills.

2 Updating Teaching Methods

It is very important that you change your teaching methods, you should conceptualize different methods of teaching for students.

You can include learning activities such as seminars, debates, extempore, role play, learning games, learning styles, group discussions etc. This kind of activity awakens the interest among students and focuses more on understanding the concepts.

Conceptualise strategies for different teaching methods

Conduct learning activities in the classroom with the help of technology or any materials

Focus on visual learning as they can retain information for longer periods of time than the words.

Adapt different learning styles of students such as visual, aural, social and physical to teach.

Practice Exam Questions

3 Use of Technology

We all know that technology has brought a wide range of learning opportunities in the education sector. In today’s world, technology is breaking the barrier in providing quality education to the students. Technology in the education sector has an important role in providing the best learning outcomes for the students. But sometimes with the conventional methods, the students lack interest and confidence in learning. In recent years, students expect that they should have the use of technology in their learning environment.

According to the report, 56 percent of children age 8-12 have cell phones, 74% of teachers feel Edtech is a student motivator and 77 % of parents allow the usage of tablets for their children’s learning.

It helps in promoting students engagement for effective learning with the help of online tools

It will provide abundant information in the form of text, videos, images, graphics, documentaries, animations, maps, graphs, infographics etc. Also have ebooks, journals, articles, blogs for enhancing teaching and learning experience

It will help in assessing students with automated questions, quizzes etc. and provide feedback based on the performance of the students

It will enable you to provide personalized guidance to the students for their better learning outcomes.

4  *Regular Assessment

How will you know if the students are understanding what they are learning?

Assessment helps students in understanding their learning abilities, so it is important to conduct on a regular basis in order to identify their strengths and weaknesses based on their performance. You should conduct regular assessments after every chapter in the form of quizzes, games or any activities so that there is a clear understanding of what they have learned and what needs more improvement. Plan your assessment strategy in such a way that there is a clear understanding of the questions and provide instant feedback based on their performance.

Conduct chapter wise, full test, revision test on a regular basis

Take help of online platforms for assessment of students

Help students in managing their time during the test or exams

*Create questions on chapter wise, unit wise or whole syllabus .

5 Encourage Self Learning

students teaching in the class? It is a new approach for better learning

6 Regular Feedback

Every student should be given the opportunity to know their progress or mistakes in their learning process.

It is important to provide feedback regularly to identify their strengths and weaknesses for the scope of improvement. It will help students to develop skills in their learning environment. Once the assessment or any assignment task is done, you have to instantly give feedback so that students can relate to their shortcomings and improve in the next assessment.

7 Interactive Learning

Why do you think interaction can improve learning outcomes in students? We have to understand the fact that effective communication between students and teachers can bring high productivity in the classroom. Sometimes few students feel shy in asking questions related to learning which can affect their grades. If the teachers take a class and leave without interaction or communication with the students leads to poor performance in the exams. It is important for social-emotional learning among students. And when they have social-emotional learning, they are much more skilled in terms of self-learning, decision making, problem-solving, maintaining social relationships, etc. The activities should be conducted to help students to their track goals, role-play and debates. It helps them to achieve their goals, face challenges and solve problems, therefore

Conduct interactive activities for the students in the form of seminars, extempores, speech, debates etc

Encourage students to participate in interactive sessions in the classroom.

*8  Engaging Every student

We should understand that student engagement is important for better learning outcomes. Have you seen students gazing at the blackboard or windows during the class hours? It happens when students start losing interest during the lecture due to poor teaching methods, boring environment, outdated curriculum etc.

So, it is important to engage them for long periods of time by taking classes that are fun and interesting. With this, they will be able to concentrate and improve their learning outcomes. You have to conduct activities that allow students to participate in a better understanding of the concept. Engaging students helps in increasing their attention span during the class and focus on learning.

Conduct engaging activities using visual tools, audio, documentaries, graphics, animations, etc

Use material or props for explaining or demonstrating the concept in the class

Give real-life examples or situations so that students can connect to the concept easily

Promote learning through examples of everyday routine for a better understanding of the concepts.

9 Effective Course Content

The framework of the curriculum should be designed in such a way that it provides expected to learn outcomes for students. We should understand that curriculum is the most important factor in the education sector that provides learning outcomes for the students.

The content should be designed based on the student’s needs and interests. It should contain information, knowledge and  skills for effective learning opportunities. Also, focus on what teachers teach and students learn from the curriculum. It should contain topics that are based on authentic research, current trends, national and international knowledge, practicals, activities along with an effective time frame.

10  Personalized Guidance

We all know that every student has a different pattern and style of learning. We cannot compare them with other students’ ability to learn For instance, when you teach something  few students with high grasping abilities are more likely to secure high ranks in their exams but what about the average students who take time to understand the concept?  In such scenarios, teachers might neglect the average students as they do not pay attention to the individual students leading to poor performance. So it is important to provide personalized guidance to individual students for better learning outcomes. You have to understand their weaknesses and strengths based on their performance. And change the teaching pattern accordingly. With this, the students can learn within their comfort zone and improve their learning outcomes.

Communicate with the students on a regular basis

Identify their interest based* on the learning pattern

Conduct practice and revision tests for better learning outcomes*

Pinpoint their mistakes to identify their weaknesses and strengths

At our school we have already planned all above, if you will implement above 10 points with some on the spot improvisation, then it will enhance LEARNING OUTCOME TO DESIRED LEVEL —————————————————————————————————————————————–

Froebel’s kindergarten

HASTI PUBLIC SCHOOL & JR. COLLEGE

BLOG NO. 83

AT OUR  HASTI PRE SCHOOL children are taught through creative play, social interaction and natural expressions

We use the right blend of

Froebel’s Kindergarten System and child centered system of education used by Gujubhai Badheka , Anutai Wagh.

Today in this complex  artical we will try to see the system propelled by

Friedrich Wilhelm august Froebel  The German educator, psychologist, best known founder of the kindergarten system and one of the greatest contributors of the 19th century to the science of education.

He was an absolute idealist

To him education is a stage in the evolution of the child

Education helps to elevate child to a higher level and be a useful member of the society.

He introduces a new method of teaching related to the interest and inborn tendencies of children, which emphasizes natural development through self activities and experience

Froebel’s educational ideals

 1. The whole universe is simply a unity. It demonstrates unity of substance, unity of origin and unity of purpose.

2. There is one eternal law-the law of unity-that governs all things, men and nature.

3. Education is a growth from within. Every one develops according to some universal law.

 4. Education is a development by which and individual realizes that he is one unit of the all encompassing unity (God).

 5. Development is possible only through activity and practice

6. The purpose of educationis to unfold the child’s innate power and awaken his spiritual nature so that he may have a spiritual union with god.

7. There is similarity between the growth of a plant and that of a child.

8. Play is the highest expression of human development in childhood for it alone is the free expression of what is in a child’s soul

. 9. Play is the spontaneous activity of the child. Therefore it is the test to for their education.

10. Self activity is the greatest teacher. The teacher is only a guide. He should have full sympathy for the child.

 Froebel’s kindergarten

Kindergarten is the system of pre-school in which children are taught through creative play, social interaction and natural expressions

. He called this school as kindergarten which means in German language as  Garden of children’. He aimed children in his school to grow as freely as flowers in a garden.

He believed that

2.  A child is repository of all good qualities and each child carries with in itself the seeds of its fullest development. Hence, He compared a school with a garden, a child with a seedling and a teacher with a gardener.

The name kindergarten signifies both a garden ‘for’ children and also a garden ‘of’ children.

A garden for children means a location where they can observe and interact with nature.

Garden of Children: A Garden of children means where they themselves can grow and develop in freedom from arbitrary political and social imperatives

. Features of Kindergarten 1. Free self Activity-Kindergarten system gives opportunity to carries out his impulses and motives. It provides for the free self activity.

2. Creativity- Child is in creative in nature. The kindergarten fosters creativity by process materials (gifts) for the child self directed activity.

 3. Social Participation- It provides opportunities for participation in social activities and co- operative activities and which will encourage the child to discover himself and his world. As a result he can build social relationships.

4. Motor expression-Children are impulsive and physically active by nature. The kindergarten system promotes learning by doing

. 5. Gifts and occupations

as materials and method of education – Froebel design special materials known as gifts and a series of recommended activities known as occupations for use in kindergarten. The gifts are a set of geometric shapes such as balls, cubes, cut papers etc.

Occupations such as folding paper, clay modeling etc.

 6. Teaching through play Play is the characteristics activity of childhood. Kindergarten system makes use of this play behavior for providing learning experiences to the child. So the child will learn many things easily and eagerly.

7. Teaching through songs, gestures and construction- Froebel says that singing, gestures and constructing something are the general nature of children. Hence, proper organization of these activities is the best means of their developments.

The Froebel’s Gifts are play materials for young children designed by Froebel for the original Kindergarten.

Gift-I The 1st gift is a soft ball or yarn ball insolidcolour, which is the right size for the hand of a small child

Gift-II The 2nd gift originally consisted of two wooden objects, a sphere and a cube

. Froebel called this gift “the child’s delight”

. Merit of Kindergarten System

It laid emphasis on early childhood education.

It gave importance to the principle of learning by play.

It develops imagination and creative capacities of children.

It develops mental, emotional, social, and spiritual qualities of children

This system broadened the concept and scope of the school as an essential social institution.

Demerits

The over emphasis on play is likely to distract the child from serious learning

The method requires a number of materials and specialized teachers which cannot be provided at all times.

At our Hasti school we emphasise on PLAY BASED LEARNING

 & ACTIVITY BASED LEARNING

The last seen …. These are the three words … If you read carefully, you will notice that WhatsApp is an invaluable feature that has become an integral part of your life. This will show you when you last saw the app…

40 seconds … 20 minutes …

2 hours … 1 day ….

But this is the last seen, if we apply it to books, what will be the answer …? 2 months …

6 months … maybe 2 years … ‘What are you going to do … I don’t have time to read “… This is a picture that opens the eyes of the givers. Every 84 days we recharge Rs. Why buy a book worth Rs.

‘Read if you can’

We have been reading this since childhood, but instead of saving time for reading, we try to save ourselves from reading.

Today, former President Dr. A.P.J. Abdul Kalam’s birthday. He played in books till the last moment of his life. This is their wealth. We celebrate his birthday as ‘Reading Inspiration Day’.

Explaining the books, Sir Francis Bacon says,

“Reading makes a full man,

Conference a ready man and

Writing an exact man. “

Reading is the tool that makes a person perfect. Therefore, he is our true friend. Also, this gift of language and reading is the destiny of only human beings on this earth, not of other animals. Therefore, everyone should read  ‘Granth Hech Guru’. One who is thirsty for knowledge should become a devotee of books

. Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar used to say, “If you have two rupees, take a loaf of bread for one rupee and a book for one rupee, because bread will keep you alive and the book will teach you why you want to live

.” Most of the books like Gitarahasya, Majhi Janmthep, Discovery of India were written in jail. Dr. Rajendra Bharud, who became IAS by reading other people’s books, is a good example of this. Not only reading school books but also other extra reading helps in real development of personality. In fact, education starts only after the end of school.

That is why Samarth went on to say, “Disamaji should write something, occasionally read it intact”.

Abroad, children get into the habit of reading from an early age. The library has a computer.

You can use it. You don’t see this picture. The screen size of the TV is increasing by an inch but the size of the brain and thoughts should increase as there is no alternative but books. Real progress will come only when libraries are built in place of temples in the country. About reading, people today say, hey, we just read the messages on the mobile …. but sometimes read from the book too .. the head will calm down .. it will fill the mind with the scent of blank pages .. it will make you want to read more … more direct than PDF and audio

Stay with the book and read … I would like to underline a few lines … I would like to highlight a word .. I would like to bookmark it instead of tagging and poking … A weakened brain will become strong … Like the first rain of hope … there will be a longing for innovation … the cycle of thought will pick up speed … the hands will move, the pen will hold on to the paper and the feelings will become words … and you will get the joy of contentment … you will have success … Head .. shaking a little dust on yourself and on the book and you have to ask yourself … done with the book

The last seen …..

Therefore

Vachan Prerna Divas’ or Reading Day was celebrated   as a mark of respect to  our former President Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam who loved reading and writing.

Our Hasti School & Jr.College celebrated the  Birth anniversary , of late  president of our India  his excellence APJ Abdul kalam, in a befitting manner with  enthusiasm.

As we say today’s reader becomes tomorrow’s leader.

10 Basic Manners That Every Child Should Be Taught

HASTI PUBLIC SCHOOL AND JR.COLLEGE                                                                                                                              BLOG NO. 81                                                                                                                                                                                                *

A parent’s most important job is to ensure that their child grows up to be a kind, polite, and respectful individual. With the world being as fast-paced and technology-driven as it is, teaching a child good and basic manners and etiquette is more important than ever. While it is never too late to teach a child good habits, the earlier you start, the faster they will make it part of their lives. Teaching *please and thank you to your child is an indicator of how well they are brought up. Here is the list of manners that your child should learn.

Use the magic words

The easiest way to make your child learn to say “Thank you”, “Sorry”, and “Please”  is to make them hear you saying this every day and in a variety of situations. This is one of the first manners that a parent needs to teach a child. They must say “please” when they ask for something and “thank you” when they get something right from a young age. By starting to use these words at home, it will soon begin to come naturally to them later.

Basic table manners

Table manners are a critical social skill. Teach them basic table manners such as washing hands before meals, putting napkins on the lap, not talking with a mouth full of food, and clearing dishes from the table. It also involves waiting to eat until everyone is served. No matter if it is a big family holiday or your ordinary family meal, they should be able to handle basic table manners.

Not to Interrupt

It is a known fact that children always try to get your attention. But  when they should not interrupt in the middle of a conversation. For them waiting to speak can feel like torture. Teach them if they want to get someone’s attention straight away they should use the phrase “Excuse me”. But then most important is to teach them “Is it acceptable and important to interrupt?”

Phone Etiquette

While you make a phone call, you should introduce yourself first and then ask for the person you are calling. *While answering the phone for anyone else, teach them to say * ” May I know who is calling* so I could tell my mother?” Instead of “Who is this?” That sounds very rude. Also, teach them not to shout across the house for you rather walk over to you to inform you that you have a phone call.

Greeting Someone

Greeting someone by name is a sign of respect, it makes them feel valued. Always teach your child to greet an adult by name along with initials such as Sir /Maam Miss, Mrs, and Mr. It is important to always look in the eyes while having a conversation. And they should know basic manners like maintaining polite conversations such as asking the person “How are you?” Or simply able to reply to them politely whatever they are asking.

No comments on someone’s physical appearance

It is very rude to comment on someone’s physical attributes unless it is to compliment, which is always welcome. Never should they say their negative opinions to anyone. If this is not taught to a child early in their life, they might think it is okay to make fun of another person, be in the playgrounds or their school friends. They have to be told that it is not acceptable to hurt someone else’s feelings by bullying or making fun of them, be it in private or public.

Be Empathetic

Teach them what empathy means and how this is a treasured quality. Get your child into the habit of helping people.  Such as holding doors for someone or helping carry a bag. A helping hand ready to assist is always welcome. This also teaches them to be kind towards others. This teaches them compassion.

Being Patient

When going out with parents, a child should learn to be patient instead of running around, causing troubles. When meeting relatives or going to someone’s house, they should not be prying around the house or touching things. Many people see this as a lack of manner.

Ask for permission before taking anything.

If a child wants to take something that is not their own, they need to know that asking for permission is the right thing to do. This holds true even if the object is their moms or dads. It is also essential to teach them that they need to return whatever they have borrowed and thank the lender for it.

Knocking on closed doors

A child needs to be taught that privacy is essential even at home. When a door is closed, it is polite to knock and ask for permission to enter respectfully. It is one of the good manners where parents need to lead by example and watch as their children pick it up.

In Conclusion

The reason why many young people today do not know much about etiquette is that as a child they never learned it . At our Hasti school we see  that children learn the basic etiquettes but the overburdening of the syllabus leaves no time to revise the  basic manners. We try to teach  them informally  . That is when parent should come forward to teach the basic manners at home

Learners profile

HASTI PUBLIC SCHOOL & JR.COLLEGE,DONDAICHA

  BLOGNO.80

Hasti school believes that Each learner comes to school with strengths and challenges along with a set of interests, talents and aspirations.  At the heart of the  Hasti School is the  Learner Profile translated into set of learning outcome .This unites us all with a common focus . We each have our own strengths and stand out without stopping others from shining .

We strive to develop mastery in the things we do and share what we know generously and with humility .

We do not  make ourselves feel better by putting others down, criticizing their efforts or laughing at the outcomes of their work. We learn from people who are better than us rather than feel threatened by them .

Our Hasti school make efforts to understand the students better through learner profiles which is designed so that we see the learner in every child . Our school’s mission is to

*To attract students and develop them in to  exceptional STUDENTS  and to attract  teachers from all backgrounds to serve students, inspire them to be just and ethical citizens; * ,  train them to be wise and principled leaders

Following are the behaviours that Hasti school expects  to see,  if our institutional values are being lived into? None of us is perfect, but this is what we aim to be

Diverse: We bring something to the table, that others do not, and  are prepared to share it ,  and help others learn from it. We desire to learn from the experience and perspective of others to broaden our world view. We include others and recognize that isolation and loneliness are individually harmful and, like addiction, symptoms of a weak community We are citizens and  active participants in the communities of our friendship groups, our house, our school, our home (wherever and whatever that might be) and our country.

Meritorious: Being good at something and allowing others to be good at something while remaining free of entitlement and arrogance. We recognise our privilege and understand how privilege shapes society and the world in ways that are unfair and often invisible; we mind our privilege. We recognise that others will not be good at the same things, just as we might not be good at everything.

Inspirational: Positively influential in a group and in the community, we share our enthusiasm, joy and curiosity with others. We inspire respect by being the role models that the community needs. We don’t undermine ourselves with behaviour that is obviously hypocritical, indiscipline or harmful to ourselves or others. We choose to act,

we serve and we find mentors who inspire us so that we keep growing.

Just & Ethical: We are able to articulate the dilemmas of life and act on a visible moral compass, even when no one is looking. We do the right things at the right time in the right place. We understand that our actions have consequences, whether we like them or not, and are able to accept these consequences without justification or blame. We recognize that the position we have in the community, whatever it is, carries responsibility and a moral imperative.

Citizens : We know that we are a part of something larger than ourselves; our family, our form, our house, our school, our city and our nation. We understand that we must contribute to each of these communities in order to derive benefit from them. We have rights as citizens as well as responsibilities to every other member of the community.

Their success is our success and when things are not going well it is something that we have a duty to help correct.

Trainable: We are learning oriented, curious and not so certain that we cannot see the perspective of others or have our minds changed by experience or evidence. We are not cynical or closed to new ideas and, as lifelong learners, have developed a growth mindset  We know that we have more to learn and are determined to become better practitioners, better students and better people.

Wise: Having learned from our experiences, mistakes and failures, as well as those of others, we are not judgmental and we recognise that we are not yet complete. We are able to see the wood for the trees, understand that younger people don’t yet know what we, (but they will) and we listen more than we speak, choosing words that add value rather than take energy.

Principled: We are able to be upstanding, to support others who are in need and to call others out on their poor actions and choices with respect, whoever they are. As well as doing the right thing at the right time in the right place, we make sure that we act, rather than remaining passive; people choosing to do nothing has allowed some of the worst things in history to happen. We live our values and take responsibility for the work we do and part we play in school.

Leaders: We understand leadership as service, being able to see a need and to act on it to improve the lives of others and to further the mission of the school.

As leaders we are the role models that we need to be if we are to earn respect, build trust and influence others*. We see leadership as a responsibility from which we build social capital, not a position or title from which we exercise power and privilege.

Fraternal: We are able to give care and support to others in a way that is both honest and kind. We never put ourself ahead by stepping on others. We recognize the humanity in everyone and understand that kindness, love and empathy are the best building materials for relationships that support and last

We understand that the work we do and the part we play contributes to the learning and the growth of the community; we have a responsibility to do our work and play our part wholeheartedly.

If we could all work to help our students become Humans who exhibit these behaviours then we will have done our jobs as teachers and parents well. Of course, we have to be doing this ourselves first!
