Role of Communication Skills for Academic Success

We’ve all heard people emphasizing the importance of communicatory skills. These skills are beneficial for both interpersonal relationships as well as are in demand professionally.
We at our Hasti Public school try to focus a lot on improving the communication skills of our students as our responsibility by making them ask questions and by asking them questions .At our Hasti public school firmly believe that curiosity and courage to ask questions is the seed of communication skill .
The moment a child takes birth, it makes an announcement of his/her arrival with the first cry. As children grow, parents start modelling conversation skills thereby aiding the development and nurturing the communication skills of children by making them capable of expressing themselves. While growing up, children tend to ask a lot of questions and this innate desire or *curiosity to know the world by asking questions acts as a catalyst in communication.
Just like plants need the right amount of sunlight, water, clean soil, and some nutrients in the soil for food. *Our learners should be taught the art of listening, speaking, receiving and giving feedback and most importantly of asking questions.

Why Is Questioning Skill Important In The Teaching And Learning Process?
“If I had influence with the good fairy who is supposed to preside over the christening of all children, I would ask her gift to each child in the world be a sense of wonder so indestructible that it would last throughout life” (Rachel Carson 1965)
The above quote by Rachael Carson explains to us that a child’s world is full of excitement and wonder . To strengthen the natural instinct of wondering, questioning is an important skill to be developed in learning, a good question can open minds. It is a question that often leads us to wonder, reflect, discover and challenge new ideas, uncover new meaning by taking us from the known to unknown.
Asking questions is a worthy way of obtaining more information about a particular concept or idea, or simply starting a conversation and keeping it going. Those with good questioning skills are often also very good listeners as they spend more time absorbing information from others than sharing their own judgements and opinions. Questioning is at the heart of communication, it is an expansion of critical communication skills in children. A great question is equal to great communication hence questioning is the key mantra to successful communication.
Promoting learner questions in class is a significant role of an Inquiry teacher. They are always striving hard to get their learners to be questioners, who are thirsty to find out new information, critique about the world around them and find out more about who am I as a learner?
Develop A Culture Of Questioning In Their Classrooms
Nearly a century ago, John Dewey made a prescient observation about classroom culture and questioning that still holds true today:
No one has ever explained why children are so full of questions outside of the school, and the conspicuous absence of display of curiosity about the subject matter of school lessons.
The real issue is in the classroom culture, here would point out that teachers have enormous power, their behaviour will determine an impact on the climate of questioning in the classroom
A teacher’s curiosity infects the entire classroom in a positive way, they need to model curiosity and foster an environment where learners feel safe and comfortable in asking questions*.
The answers you get depend on the questions you ask. Whilst it raises a dialogue or a conversation that goes back and forth between two or more people, this kind of collaborative communication will lead learners in deep thinking, allow them to reflect on their own learning and find constructive solutions to problems and issues around them Without further delay
What is communication?
The simple act of giving, sharing, or receiving information among two or more individuals is known as ‘communication’.
Without mutual understanding and communication, human existence wouldn’t be possible. Communication acts as a building block to make things moving so it is very important to brush up on our skills now and then, to stay updated.
Why communication skills are important?
For mutual understanding, good communication skills are very important. Telling something confidently or asking questions can give you clarity about any subject at the same time quietly listening to someone’s explanation can give you a better understanding from their point of view.
Given below are few tips will help you improve your communication skills:
• Maintain a poised and composed body posture. Body posture speaks a lot about your personality. Don’t slouch while sitting, make eye contact, match tone, and pitch with the other person while talking to them.
• Use a correct medium to communicate depending upon the seriousness of a situation. Serious matters should be discussed verbally on call while light conversations can take place over texts or emails.
• Always be self-confident while you talk and respect other’s opinions.
• Be a good listener first and then communicate. Just to prove a point don’t dismiss what other people want to say.
• Speak less and effective with present-mindedness.
• Don’t mistake confidence for arrogance, a good communicator is always friendly and makes the other person comfortable while conversing.
Always remember, a good communicator will first listen while interacting with others and then responds appropriately. To become a leader these are the skills you should work on to win over people or anything in life.
