The Art of observation

BLOG NUMBER 115

Millions saw the apple fall and Newton could see gravity, did he?

Steve Jobs saw PCs which a grandma could use, was he seeing the future?

Jawaharlal Nehru could see India as the intellectual powerhouse of the world, was he seeing IITs, IIMs, NID?

What was Nehru seeing at the Hijli Detention Center, where the first IIT (Kharagpur) was inaugurated?

Why are visionaries able to see things which others overlook?*

Why do we overlook what is visible to us?

Is it hidden or is it out there? Do we then learn to observe?

Daniel Goleman, in his book Focus- The hidden driver of excellence articulated ambidextrity – exploration (breadth) + exploitation (depth) – open focus + exploitation. He explains why it is important to have concentration which lets us exploit an idea and go deep .

He also explains why it is important to nurture open focus which lets us explore more ideas and thus acquire breadth. The parts of the brain that are used for these two activities are different and so it requires practice.

Goleman also argues that organizations need to focus just like individuals. Organizations have limited resources, limited time, and need priorities sorted

. He says that leaders achieve personal focus and then drive collective focus, through systems awareness. They use vision, mission, values, strategy, goals, tactics to drive focus. The critical ingredient is strategy. Dave Ulrich in the book “Leadership sustainability” articulates why it is important to weigh ideas against the strategy, to see if they fit in. Great organizations are focussed and driven by strategy, but how does one create a strategy? Goleman says it requires “creativity” and “insight”. How do we acquire “insight”? Observation?

1- Observation1: Dominos covering a chess board

Look at the following chessboard whose two squares are removed. It thus has 62 squares now. You are given 31 dominos with dimensions 2×1 (two squares). Can you cover all the 62 squares using the 31 dominos? (Fig  01 given )

No alt text provided for this image

Did you make the observation that every domino covers one red square and one yellow square? Did you observe that number of red squares is more than the number of yellow squares (two yellows removed)? If the chessboard can be covered, then does it mean that number of red and yellow are equal? Does this then prove that the chessboard cannot be covered by 2×1 dominos? Is this a powerful observation?

2-* Observation2: Patterns to eliminate brute force methods*

Can you solve (a + b + c + d)^2 without using a pen and paper? Do you observe that (a + b + c + d ) * ( a + b + c + d) involves two kinds of pairs- like and unlike? How many like-pairs do you get? a^2 (a from both buckets) ? just one? How many unlike pairs do you get? ab? a* b (a from the first bucket and b from the second bucket) and b*a (b from first, a from second)? So, do we get a^2 + b^2 + c^2 + d^2 and 2ab, 2ac,2ad,2bc,2bd,2cd (all possible pairs)? Does this insight help in reducing a lot of effort?/

Likewise, can this insight be used to solve (a + b + c)(a^2 + b^2 + c^2 – ab – bc- ac)?

3- Observation3: Deeper intent of evolved products

Do we see intelligent design around us? Why does a door have a knob? Why did Jonathan Ive place a handle for a computer? *We don’t carry monitors around, then why a handle? What does a handle do? Make us get closer to the monitor? Reduce distance, anxiety, and fear of computers? Was this an intelligent design? How do we see the intention of the designer? What if we see a different intention than what the designer intended? Does it improve our observation capabilities anyway? Or why did Steve Jobs use the name “desktop”, why traffic lights colors for minimize, restore, close buttons?

4- Observation4: Trends of markets and risk aversion( fig 04)

Was Microsoft making a mistake by concentrating on Windows? Did Microsoft’s growth trigger after focusing on Cloud Technology? Did Microsoft avoid the mistake which Blackberry, Kodak, and Nokia made? Why were they unable to see the industry’s changing trends? Why is it difficult to go beyond the existing knowledge? Why is the open focus so difficult to master and execute? If exploitation can make you a good traditional business, but if exploration can help you use the next big thing, why don’t people observe the new? Is risk aversion implicitly coded in us?

5- Observation5: Characterization of great companies, individuals

Prof. Clayton Christensen and Prof Gregerson wrote “Innovator’s DNA” articulating the common characteristics which they found amongst innovators? Prof. Jim Collins studied 10Xer companies (which grow ten times in comparison to their competition) and documented the common patterns. If the patterns have remained unchanged, why don’t we follow them? Do we overlook them? Do we take it as moral science or do we see lessons of strategy while reading such insightful texts? Do we then want to study more companies, individuals and develop characterization, so we can develop habits, capabilities?

6- Observation6: Conversations, Psychology, and communication

Gita and Sita were trying to converse. Gita always felt that Sita is trying to belittle her. Sita kept explaining that she holds Gita in high esteem, but Gita isn’t convinced. Sita then reads Daniel Goleman and understands that people see actions and not intentions. Sita understands high emotional intelligence is required to see intention especially when actions hurt. Sita then asks Gita a question – “When I tell you something, why is your first response a counter”? “Can you just spend ten seconds mulling over the possibility”? “Can you think of more than one intention for the same content”? Is Sita observing a psychological pattern here? Is a psychological pattern helping Gita in imbibing more trust? If Gita trusts the intention of Sita, would it be communication? If she doesn’t, would it just be an exchange of words, with meaning lost amidst intense emotions?

7- Observation7: Comparative linguistics- learning languages better

Why do many languages have vowels? Is vowel pronunciation different from that of a consonant? Are our breathing patterns different? Can you pronounce both and feel them? Why do languages have tenses? Do all languages need tenses? Why does the world’s most spoken language, Mandarin, not have tenses? Do we have other ways to encode time-based (temporal) information? Then why are tenses popular? Do these observations help us dive deep into languages? Does this help to see the intent of content?

8-Observation8: Economic policy and framework

Can we observe the economic policy in different countries? Does the culture and tradition influence economic policy? Would they be market-centric or people-centric? Does it also depend on the current sentiment of the people? Did the world see a surge of right-wing governments? Do we see swings between left-wing popularity and right-wing popularity? Does this also affect economic policy? Would perception affect the policy? Would social welfare schemes be more likely to be implemented in a leftist regime, when people hold social welfare in good light? Are more variables visible to us? Do we overlook them?

9- Observation9: Usage of analogies, seeing the deeper intent

When an analogy is used, do we write it down as a mindmap, to see the structure? For instance, if one says that Marketing is like warfare and that upstarts are like guerilla outfits (Chatrapathi Shivaji), do we see the common pattern? Do we see that a startup doesn’t attack a corporate head-on? Do we see that a startup focuses on a tiny part of a market, with common needs, and tries to address that need with immense focus, to grab the market? Do we see that a Shivaji also focuses on a tiny part of the kingdom and tries to get, by understanding the terrain and the specifics of it? Is small strong when focused? When you are a small player, do you get to focus more, though you lack the resources of a large player? Now is our mind getting distracted by the feel-good factor of “converting weakness into a strength” or is it seeing the subtle aspect of guerilla tactics?

10- Observation10: Newton’s third law – overlooking what is told

What is Newton’s third law? Does every action have an equal and opposite reaction? In which grade did we learn this? 9th grade? Should a Literature student also know it? Does it help us understand nature better, our life better? If a 1ton truck moving at 50kmph collides with a 300kg car moving at 55kmph, which one exerts more force? Truck? Does the extra 5kmph make a difference? Do we look at momentum? Product of mass and speed?

What did we state at the beginning of the paragraph? Does every action have an equal and opposite reaction? So if the car exerts a force on the truck (action), should the truck exert equal force on the car (reaction)? Counter-intuitive? Why didn’t we find this counter-intuitive when we first learned it in 9th grade? Did we just parrot words without sensemaking? Did we overlook the insight? Do we then learn the art of reading, the art of observation while reading, thinking, listening, basically everywhere?

I hope we can all practice the art of observation, by holding our reflexes. When we make quick conclusions, we close down a lot of possibilities. But when we delay our intuition, we enable more possibilities, we stay more open. Can we listen to more perspectives? Can we see deeper materials two or three times, with a balance of open focus and concentration? Let us explore Focus- the hidden driver of excellence, to make great observations!

how to communicate with your child ?

HASTI PUBLIC SCHOOL & JR.COLLEGE,DONDAICHA

Do you think academics are important?

How do you communicate this with your child?                                                                                                                                                                                                        Kids are amazing, but parents complain that the kid doesn’t understand.

Kids are born scientists, CEOs, they get the real purpose of education                                                                                                                                                                                                   So how do we as parents go upto their level (as supposed to down to their level as many call it)  and then communicate them?

Parents speak the language of

1- Job safety/Respect

2- Livelihood/Employment

3- Correct Answers, Notes

Kids speak

1- Fun, joy of learning, vibe

2- Growing self, intelligence

3- Questions, Perspectives

Isn’t this like offering a God a 100 coconuts or candles for a job or any other wishes? Is it devotion or greed then?

Likewise, isn’t it greed if education is seen as a means of generating wealth? Aren’t the kids the pure ones who see the real purpose of education?

Only 10 or 15 out of 25kids in a class actually find the subjects interesting. The others find school interesting only because they meet friends, get a peer group, have enriching activities beyond academics. So what if these kids do not show interest in learning?

Many parents tell the kids that one needs marks to get a job. They explain that the kids need to earn some day and take responsibilities. However most kids do not understand this language and get even more repelled. They try to dodge these arguments with answers like I’ll earn some way. The real challenge is that kids don’t see value in the traditional model of academics.

1- Do we show the purpose of different subjects? How social studies evolve perspectives, how Maths brings in abstract thinking, Language- interpretation and Science- data driven decision making?

2- Does the child see academic training as a way of transforming the mind? The core of the activity of the academia is – look at the real world, make models of it and learn how these models can be used in different situations. So, does the child see value with model building?

3- Does the child value the homeworks and projects? Or are they dry rituals whose meaning is lost in translation? Do we explain them the why before talking of what to do? Do we leave the how to them or do we spoon-feed them?

4- Do we look at the marks alone or do we look at the intelligence that the child builds through the learning? Do we value and recognize this in kids? Kids feel good when they appear intelligent and they push harder if they get that recognition.

5- It is not just about encouraging your childs passion. A few basics become important- are you providing an emotional safety net to your child, is your child understanding the need for exploration, is your child having a base understanding of the world – this is where academics come in.

If parents can change the way subjects or studies are looked at, parent-child gap gets reduced. A good thing is that curious kids refuse to comply unless you show them a solid purpose. Most parents or teacher struggle there because the intent is usually money generation rather than the kick of learning. Kids usually prefer the latter.

HAPPINESS  CLASS & HAPPINESS CURRICULUM

With a vision to enhance students’ mindfulness and positive productivity, the happiness curriculum is in action   our school plans to introduce it shortly

Similar to the conventional studies, practice to feel better is equally important. That’s how this curriculum is included at the school level to take care of mental health from childhood.

The basic idea behind such an initiative is to let the children grow safe and sound amidst the complex social problems and threats.

How do Happiness Curriculum activities work?

•           The curriculum is for children up to std.VIII

•           To learn about the happiness curriculum, the students must follow the philosophy imposed by great thinkers like Rabindranath Tagore, Mahatma Gandhi, Jiddu Krishnamurthy, Agrahar Nagraj Sarman, etc.

•           As a student starts their education journey, they need to learn the fundamentals of emotional science to care for others as well as for themselves. That’s how this happiness curriculum works from the beginning in the elementary level of school.

•           As the students proceed academically, they need to learn more about observing body language, exploring their own preferences to find happiness, recognizing physical similarities, etc.

•           There are no grades, tests, or formal text-based study processes related to this course. So a student can enjoy and feel the right message through different modules as planned.

•           There are books available for each standard for ex;

Happiness

Importance of happiness curriculum.

•           This course is as important as any other subject in the formal academic subjects present in school.

•           With the pressure a student has to bear through personal expectations and social problems, a healthy way to keep the self joyous is very crucial.

•           The happiness curriculum activities not only help an individual to solve his own problems, but to assist someone else with empathy.

•           As there’s no grade system associated with the course, the students are free to learn this basic science of the mind at their own pace.

•           Moreover, in our country where more than 50% of the population is youth, this curriculum can play a potential role to create a generous society from childhood.

Application and response

•           There are many positive responses about the happiness curriculum till now. Not only students but the teachers are getting benefits with this course.

•           As the students are getting more attentive in class, the teachers are also prioritising values over academic success

•           Several organizations like Le Monde, World Economic Forum, and NPR praised this model of happiness curriculum. Also, states like Andhra Pradesh and Uttarakhand have adopted the idea of the happiness model. Also, countries like Afghanistan, Nepal, and UAE are influenced by this idea and are about to implement the same.

•           The happy curriculum in India is a pioneer in building fundamental awareness of mindfulness and social-emotional learning. However, there was a long gap in the pandemic situation. With a long future goal of developing a positive generation in this country, this curriculum would be a huge advantage for the students.

TOWARD FUTURISTIC SCHOOL

HASTI PUBLIC SCHOOL & JR.COLLEGE,DONDAICHA                                                                                                                 BLOG NUMBER 111                                                                                                                                                                                   A STEP TOWARD FUTURISTIC SCHOOL                                                                                                                                                **Every school with Digitalisation, globalisation, integration, innovation looks luminous with Introduction of smart classes, inclusion of smart boards, plethora of subject choices offered, variety of activities to pursue, choices in terms of experiences to broaden the horizon of a child via exchange programmes, certainly the list is endless on how schools are bringing multifariousness to cherish and encourage the spirit of a child*I.

Our Hasti school is keeping the pace and building up on the school resources , be it in terms of the physical structures or encouraging the talent pool with respect to the teaching faculty, its essential to repair, prepare and fortify the school infrastructure in all ways possible to ensure the future of the country, the citizens of tomorrow, the students get the best of facilities and opportunities to forge ahead.

Mental health: an important aspect.

Though a six-hour day at school has enough for the educational mental, physical, cognitive invigoration for a child, but* our school has plans exclusively  for the psychological and* emotional welfare for a child and adolescents.

The alarming rate of children’s mental health problem isn’t a masked certitude anymore. According to a recent study, three decades back, 1 in 10 high school students could be categorised having a mental health issue , *now the number is 1in 3*I.

Stress and depression are the most common phenomena plaguing youngsters, with the institute of mental health classifying approx. 25% of children between 13 to 18years suffering from anxiety disorder.

The list proving this sentiment can keep adding more attributes, but the veracity of the mental health landscape pertaining to plans, provisions, policies and methodologies in any average school is at a dismal state and sadly there aren’t ample measures taken to curb this downward spiral of a child’s psyche. The magnitude of this problem can’t be ignored any more and the time has come to recognise the gargantuan status of this problem that is slowly creeping and corroding the confidence of a teen.

Ask Google for ‘Top 10 issues facing the youth today,” the answer ranges from the following: *Failure to succeed in education systemI, Issues related to body image, family problems, Substance abuse, Pressures of materialism, Negative stereotyping,

Pressure of 24 hour social networking tops the list.

Each child is different and so is his/her problem

Everyone can perceive that with the education being provided at most of school presently, a student can hardly scratch the surface of these problems. The obstacles are very personal and can vary in intensity and understanding of the child. Two children within the same school of the same class can anticipate their problems dealing with the same issue, in distinct manners and this, thus complicates the solution for them. The quandary (is not just about the ADHD and learning disabled students

. The challenges today lie with children battling cyber addiction, social media validation, celebrity Idolization, emotional turmoil and identity crisis.

It is said that in about 70% of adults having a psychological disorder, the symptoms begin to surface in their teenage years. Imagine the world of difference it would make for such children who get the required intervention at the right time in school to transform themselves into responsible and contributing adults for tomorrow.

According to the World Economic Forum Global survey, world’s most serious problems are Climate change/destruction of nature, Large scale conflict/war, Inequality, Religious conflicts, Government accountability and corruption.

It doesn’t take rocket science to understand that the core human values of empathy, understanding respect, honesty, courage, integrity, perseverance, and many more are needed to deal with these.

While a child can turn to the internet to understand a lesson in Maths, Sciences or languages, it’s near impossible to decode his/her personal feelings, emotions and thoughts. There is no such platform to give him an insight into the why’s and what’s of his own persona. Hence it is important to connect them with their own ‘thinking’ and ‘feeling ‘ part and ensure they are in sync.

While the result of a school depends on the academic score card of a child , its even so, more important for the society and nation to emphasise on the harmonious and holistic development of a child’s thoughts, feelings, morals, values, personality and character* considering this our Hasti school has decided to regularly assess the personality development of every child and like academic progress card,  personality assessment card to be issued to appraise parents about the thoughts, feelings, morals, values, personality and character*of their ward..

Our Hasti school’s education policy and curriculum are the primary agents to make a difference in the standard of the succeeding mankind. Our Hasti School believes that Let a child accept himself first  let a child acknowledge his worth first, let a child be aware of himself first ( for this variety of result oriented  activities at pre-primary section are organised and conducted ) and then let the process of transferring knowledge begin. Our Hasti school believes that the confidence and motivation that comes in from self-awareness can provide a student a strong platform to contribute in the betterment of the world in a more benefiting way.

While the risks may not be completely eliminated in children, due to time and resource constraints , but we have plans to assist our students by way of setting up

•           A guidance and counselling department with a qualified counsellor to monitor all the students in a school ensures the primary setup to aid the ones who need the most.

•           On an average 20 minutes a day should be devoted exclusively for emotional and mental introspection of a child (most importantly teens).

•           A well designed time table involving Yoga , Arts, S.U.P.W ,school  thinks that an Art  is the true expression of humans lovely creative power.  An art work is the reflection of artist’s temperament, *An art it is the product of  his physical and mental creative skill art is the way out to vent  the emotions and feelings. .

•           Periodic screening through simple yet robust psychometric tests to weed out students who need assistance.

•           SWAYAM (myself) classes for senior students to acknowledge and ascertain their own areas of weakness, emotional disturbances, improvement and management or self-regulation of emotions.

•           And most importantly workshops, talks, lectures and activities to address the common problems facing the youth today on a regular basis by exemplary speakers who can motivate and inspire youngsters to dwell within.

•           The role of the regular class and subject teachers cannot be collated in their potentiality to galvanize this process. They have an ability to revolutionize the day-to-day prosaic classroom proceedings into something more exhilarating and remunerative concerning the student’s psyche.

The dawn of a new tomorrow is going to usher in exigent demands of steadfastness and principled young minds. Our Hasti school is going to make sure  that  our children are prepared to take on the call with a firm grip over themselves first. The boons of honouring their own unique persona shall effortlessly pave way for them being a paragon.

As Aristotle rightly said “Knowing yourself is the beginning of all wisdom. “Let’s all say let it be so

why kids should learn science

HASTI PUBLIC SCHOOL & JR.COLLEGE,DONDAICHA

BLOG NO. 108

Kids should learn science because:

Science helps children develop key life skills, including an ability to communicate, remain organized and focused and even form their own opinions based on observation.

Science also helps children develop their senses and overall awareness

Science is just as important as learning other subjects like mathematics and history. The increased push towards a STEM education is at the forefront of conversations about education today.

We at our Hasti school and our science subject teachers try to make children learn science  by making children ask more and more questions  .we try to  develop the curiosity and inquisitiveness .  learning by doing and observing is emphasized  . children visit science laboratory and perform hand on activities.  Children have easy access to STEM learning kits .Some important aspects of science :-

Knowledge

Teaching science offers students to opportunity to increase their overall understanding of how and why things work.

Problem Solving Skills

Children can develop a healthy dose of skepticism from studying science. Science also instills a sense of intrigue that allows students to understand and form questions based on the knowledge they gained.

Technology

Science teaches the basics of how certain devices work. This helps children develop ideas of their own and possibly invent new technology in the future.

Natural Science

Science explains how the earth functions and how to make use of natural resources Almost everything that a person does requires a basic knowledge of science, and logical reasoning that is based on this subject. .

Learning of science  is very useful as

It helps develop their critical thinking skills.

Science for kids is all about observing, asking questions, and looking for patterns. This discovery process helps children learn how to think critically about the world around them.

It teaches them how to ask questions

Science for kids is all about asking questions and finding answers. This process starts with kids observing their surroundings and noticing things they don’t understand. As they ask questions.

It develops their problem-solving skills.

One of the most important things that kids learn from doing science is how to solve problems. By observing the world around them and conducting experiments,

It gives them a chance to be creative.

Science is not just about facts and figures. It is also about creativity and imagination. In order to come up with new ideas and solve problems,

It helps them understand the world around them.

In order to understand the world around them, kids need to learn about science. Science is the study of the world around us, and it can help kids make sense of the things they see and experience

It develops their research skills.

In order to comprehend the world around them, kids need to learn how to do research. They need to be able to find reliable sources of information

It helps them understand the importance of cooperation.

In order to conduct experiments and gather data, kids need to learn how to work together. They must be able to communicate effectively, take turns, and respect each other’s ideas.

Dear Parents you can help in making science learning easy and interesting  for  your ward .by following   creative ways

1. Do some hands-on activities

Hands-on activities are a fantastic way to learn new things interested in science for kids. There are plenty of simple experiments that you can do at home with everyday items. Try doing some kitchen science experiments, such as making homemade slime or exploring the properties of liquids and solids. You can also check out some easy science projects for kids online.

2. Take a trip to a science museum

Science museums science centers and science parks  are a great way to get kids interested in science.. If there isn’t a science museum near you, consider visiting a nearby planetarium or aquarium.

3. Watch educational science shows

There are loads of great educational science for kids shows aimed at kids. Try watching some with your child

4. Do some science experiments together

Experiments are a great way to get kids interested in science. There are lots of simple experiments that you can do at home with household items. Try looking up some easy science experiments online and give them a go with your child.

6. Watch science documentaries together

There are lots of great science documentaries out there that kids will enjoy watching. Documentaries can be a great way to learn about science and they’re usually pretty entertaining too. Try looking for some good science documentaries on Netflix or another streaming service.

7. Encourage them to ask questions

It is important to encourage kids to ask questions about science  for kids. When they’re watching a science program or reading a book, stop and ask them if they have any questions Science for kids is a fascinating subject,

Although it can be a lot of work to get kids interested in science, the benefits are worth it. By encouraging your children to explore the natural world around them and asking questions about how things work, you’re helping to lay the foundation for a lifelong love of learning. And who knows? Maybe one day they will become scientists themselves!

 What is SARCOPENIA

Sarcopenia. is the loss of skeletal muscle mass and strength as a result of ageing. It is a terrible condition.

Let’s explore sarcopenia !

Title: “Slowly Use Your Functional Muscles”

1. To develop a habit of being able to stand … just don’t sit! … and don’t lie down if you can sit!

2. After the age of 50~60, it is not possible to lose weight, especially if you do not exercise and rely on eating less to lose weight!

Because if all the muscles are lost, it can be very dangerous!

3. Does running, cycling or climbing hurt the knee?

If you have never exercised before you can only go running, biking, or climbing in your mind as it will hurt your knees a lot!

But if you have enough muscle strength and slowly develop the habit of running, cycling, and climbing, it can be a good exercise and not hurt your knees! Whether you hurt your knees or not depends on your muscle strength!

4. If an elderly person is sick and hospitalized, don’t ask him to rest more … or lie down and relax and not get out of bed!

Lying down for a week loses at least 5% of muscle mass !

And the old man can’t get his muscles back !

5. Don’t think that you are filial by not letting the elders do any housework, and scold the maid if they do it !

Usually, many elderly people who hire helpers lose muscle faster !

6. Don’t just do a single activity every day when you go to the park.

Dont just shake your hands when you can also shake your legs. You must also pull the horizontal bar or move every sports equipment!

Because as long as a person moves, then all the muscles of whole body will be involved!

Many elderly people even have difficulty swallowing because of insufficient exercise!

In the end, they could not even cough up a mouthful of sputum and die because of this!

7. Sarcopenia is more terrifying than osteoporosis !

With osteoporosis you just need to be careful not to fall, whereas sarcopenia not only affects the quality of life but also causes high blood sugar due to insufficient muscle mass!

8. The fastest loss of sarcopenia is in the muscle of the legs!

Because when a person sits or lie down, the legs are not moving and the muscle strength of the legs are affected … this is particularly important !

Don’t become black feet !

So squat at least 20 to 30 times a day.

Squat is not squatting down but like sitting on the toilet seat … you can use a chair and stand up when your butt touches the seat!

You MUST pay attention to sarcopenia!

Go up & down stairs … running, cycling and climbing are all great exercises and can increase muscle mass!

For a better quality of life for everyone in old age …

Move… don’t waste your muscle!!

Aging starts from the feet upwards !

KEEP YOUR LEGS ACTIVE & STRONG !!

▪️As we put on years & keep getting old on a daily basis , our feet must always remain active & strong.

As we are constantly ageing / get aged, we should not be afraid of our hair turning grey (or) skin sagging ( or) wrinkles on face.

▪️Among the signs of longevity, long fit life as summarized by the popular US Magazine ” Prevention “, strong leg muscles are listed on the top, as the most important & essential one.

Please walk daily.

▪️If you don’t move your legs for just two weeks, your real leg strength will decrease by 10 years.

Just walk

▪️A study from the University of Copenhagen in Denmark found that both old & young, during the two weeks of inactivity, the legs muscle strength can weaken by a third which is equivalent to 20-30 years of ageing !!

So just walk

▪️As our leg muscles weaken, it will take a long time to recover, even if we do rehabilitation & exercises, later.

WALK.

▪️Therefore, regular exercise like walking, is very important.

▪️The whole body weight/ load remains and rest on the legs.

▪️The feet are a kind of pillars, bearing the entire weight of the human body.

Walk everyday.

▪️Interestingly, 50% of a person’s bones & 50% of the muscles, are in the two legs.

Do walk

▪️The largest & strongest joints & bones of the human body are also in the legs.

10K steps / day

▪️Strong bones, strong muscles and flexible joints form the Iron Triangle that carries the most important load i.e. the human body.”

▪️70% of human activity and burning of energy in one’s life is done by the two feet.

▪️Do you know this ? When a person is young, his/ her thighs have enough strength , to lift a small car of 800 kg !

▪️The foot is the center of body locomotion.

▪️Both the legs together have 50% of the nerves of the human body, 50% of the blood vessels and 50% of the blood is flowing through them.

▪️ It is the largest circulatory network that connects the body.

So walk daily.

▪️Only when the feet are healthy then the convention current of blood flows , smoothly, so people who have strong leg muscles will definitely have a strong heart. Walk.

▪️Aging starts from the feet upwards

▪️As a person gets older, the accuracy & speed of transmission of instructions between the brain and the legs decreases, unlike when a person is young. Please walk

▪️In addition, the so-called Bone Fertilizer Calcium will sooner or later be lost with the passage of time, making the elderly more prone to bone fractures. WALK.

▪️Bone fractures in the elderly can easily trigger a series of complications, especially fatal diseases such as brain thrombosis.

▪️Do you know that 15% of elderly patients generally, will die max. within a year of a thigh-bone fracture !! Walk daily without fail

▪️ Exercising the legs, is never too late, even after the age of 60 years.

▪️Although our feet/legs will gradually age with time, exercising our feet/ legs is a life-long task.

Walk 10,000 steps

▪️Only by regular strengthening the legs, one can prevent or reduce further aging. Walk 365 days

▪️ Please walk for at least 30-40 minutes daily to ensure that your legs receive sufficient exercise and to ensure that your leg muscles remain healthy.

You should share this important information with all your ” friends & family members, as everyone is aging on a daily basis*.*

HAVE WE FAILED IN BRINGING UP.OUR ‘MODERN’ KIDS?

“HAVE WE FAILED IN BRINGING UP.OUR ‘MODERN’ KIDS?

We often come across the point of the introduction. We all want to be the best parents, we can be , for our children , but there is often conflicting advice on how to raise a kid who is confident, kind and successful. And every aspect of being a parent has been more complicated and more fraught during the pandemic, with parents managing complex new assignments and anxious new decisions, all while handling the regular questions that come up in daily life with the children we love. Throughout the circus act of parenting, it’s important to focus on balancing priorities, juggling responsibilities and quickly flipping between the needs of your children, other family members and yourself. Modern parents have the entire internet at their disposal and don’t follow any single authority. It’s hard to know whom or what to trust. Here, we’ll talk about how to help your child grow up to be a person you really like without losing yourself in the process.

WE all must have read an article written by Narayan Murthy CEO Infosys “HAVE WE FAILED IN BRINGING UP.OUR ‘MODERN’ KIDS?

A very distressed neighbor shared that he had driven home after a long day at work. As he entered, he saw his wife in bed with fever. She had laid out his dinner on a tray.

Everything was there just as he wanted it. The dal, vegetables, salad, green chutney, papad and pickles… ”How caring,” he thought, “Even when she is unwell, she finds the strength to do everything for me.”

As he sat down to eat, he realized that something was missing. He looked up at his grown up daughter who was watching TV and said, ”Beta (child), can you get me my medicine and a glass of water, please?”

She rolled up her eyeballs to show her displeasure at being disturbed, but did the favour nevertheless.

A minute later he realized that salt was missing in the dal.

He said, ”Sorry beta, can you please get me some salt?”

She said, ”Ufff!” and got the salt but her stomping shoes made it clear that she did not appreciate the disruption.

A few minutes later he said, ”Beta …”

She banged the TV remote on the table and said, ”What is it now Dad? How many times will you make me get up? I too am tired; I had a long day at work!”

The man said, ”I’m so sorry beta…”

Silence prevailed.

The man got up and placed the dishes in the kitchen sink and quietly wiped the tear escaping his eye.

My heart wept… I often wonder; Why is it that the youngsters of the so called modern world behave like this? Have we given them too much freedom to express? Have we failed to discipline and give them the right values?

Is it right to treat children as friends? Think of it this way, they have lots of friends. But they have only one set of parents. If they don’t do ‘parenting’, who will?

Today the ‘self-esteem’ of even a new born or an infant is being talked about; but what about the self-esteem of the parents? Are they supposed to just fan the egos of their children, while the children don’t care two hoots about theirs?

Often parents say, “Aajkal ke bachhe sunte kahaan hain (Where will you find obedient children in these times)?” Why?

Remember to Pay-

RENT – Respect, Empathy, Niceness, and Time!

I ALWAYS ADVISE PARENTS TO BE PARENTS AND NOT FRIENDS. Your kids can have n number of friends but have only ONE set of parents.

So don’t be afraid to set rules and make the children obey them

Research tells that to raise a self reliant child with high esteem it is more effective to be authoritative than authoritarian. You want your child to listen, respect and trust you rather than fear you . You want to be supportive, but not a hovering, helicopter parent.

All of these things are easy to set as goals, but hard to achieve.  How do you find the right balance? As your child develops, the challenges will change, and your thinking may evolve, but your approach should be consistent, firm and loving. Help your child learn through experience that making an effort builds confidence and helps you learn to tackle challenges. Calibrate your expectations about what your child is capable of doing independently, whether you have an infant learning to sleep through the night, a toddler helping to put toys away, or an older child resolving conflicts. Remember, there is no one right way to raise a child. Do your best, trust yourself and enjoy the company of the small person in your life.  A dependent child is a demanding child. Children become irresponsible only when we fail to give them opportunities to take on responsibility .” – Rudolf “ If we aren’t supposed to do things FOR our kids that they’re perfectly capable of doing for themselves, how do we ensure things get done completely and efficiently ?”

Instead of unintentionally instilling a sense of helplessness by overly assisting our children, we can Take Time for Training and TEACH them they can do most things for themselves.

Parents often underestimate this simple tool. It can feel burdensome because it does take time.

We don’t always have time to interact with our kids face-to-face and calmly teach them what we know. But this is one of a parent’s most crucial jobs. Besides providing for our children, we need to teach them to provide for themselves.

Kids as young as two or three can be encouraged to do as much as possible for themselves. This includes getting dressed, making their beds, and helping themselves to food in the refrigerator.

And naturally, the older kids get, the greater the responsibilities.

The Take Time for Training tool gives our kids the confidence and encouragement to develop the skills so crucial for independence.

Focus on Family Contributions.

Every member of a family plays an important role in a successfully running house hold.

If our goal is to raise independent kids, there are basic skills they’ll need as a functioning adult. Learning how to clean a house, cook wholesome meals etc.

4. Encourage Effort…and Celebrate Failure!

Some kids are so locked into the fear of failure, they don’t even try.

Imagine how this might play out in the real world–the place where your child needs to take risks. *focus on the quality of their EFFORTS while they’re still under your roof.

If your son studied hard for his biology test and still got a C, it’s the hard work he put in that counts. If your potty-training toddler failed to make it to the toilet in time, her steps (literally) in the right direction are commendable.

* Nourish Your Child’s “Spirit* ” *Kids that hear positive feedback spend less time retreating from their traits and more time expanding upon them…
