*HASTI PUBLIC SCHOOL AND JR.COLLEGE*
*
When many schools and parents are thinking *WHAT ,WHY & HOW* about coding , our Hasti school has introduced the coding concept in pre primary school* with the help of *bee bot* and at higher level with *robotics*. Children at our school understand coding and algorithms from pre primary level
If we want to set our children up , for academic success, every child should learn to code. *Coding for kids not only helps improve their mathematics and writing skills but also gives them valuable skills in life and eventually in the workforce*. There are various reasons *why coding is important to learn* and why coding should be taught in schools from an early age. *The early children learn to code, the better their chance at success*.
*What is coding*
Put simply, *Coding is the a method of communicating with a computer*. It is using a language that a computer understands to give a computer instructions in order to perform specific functions. Coding allows us to create things such as computer software, websites, apps and video games.
*There are various types of different code*, depending on what you want to develop. each have their own set of rules. But *basically, coding is giving instructions to a computer* in order to produce a desired outcome.
*Help your kids learn to code*
Before we get to talking about why every child should learn to code, find out HOW you can teach your child to code. *It’s easy to get started teaching children to code, even if you don’t have any coding experience yourself!*
*Start Out Unplugged* You can get started coding with your kids today! It’s easy, and all you need are items , you likely have around your house . To first start learning the basics of coding, *you don’t even need a computer* ! One of our most popular unplugged coding activities involves learning to code with a deck of cards!
*LET US SEE THE SUPER SIMPLE coding game for TINY TOTS* . We use this activity to introduce CHILDREN to coding and to teach basic coding skills. *This STEM activity is so easy to set up*, it essentially requires no work or prep! All you need for this coding activity is a deck of cards, some tape, and some toys that you already have lying around your house or classroom.
This activity is an *example of a screen-free coding activity* or ‘coding unplugged’ activity. Coding doesn’t always mean you have to be attached to your computer!
*Algorithms*: At the most basic level, coding involves giving instructions to a computer to make something happen. In this activity, we will be practicing giving instructions to get from start to finish.. These instructions are an example of an algorithm. *An algorithm is simply a set of instructions*
*What do you need*?
A deck of cards
Painter’s tape or another floor safe tape
A variety of small toys
Printable Set (optional)
Includes specific challenges, game pieces and algorithm pieces
This activity is SUPER easy to set up. You want to create a grid with the deck of cards. I made a 7×7 grid with our deck. I used painter’s tape to secure the deck of cards to the floor.
Then take a bunch of toys and placed them on the cards such that it would be difficult for a child to figure out how to get from the start to the finish. Essentially you are creating a maze with the toys.
You *can use a toy *car as your ‘robot*’. You can also use an action figure, a game piece, a sticker, or ANYTHING.
Start with your ‘robot’ in the starting position. You will need to give ‘coding instructions’ to the robot to get him to the finish line to claim the prize!
Coding for kids: coding instructions’ are given one at a time to direct the robot( here a car ) to the finish line (prize)
e.g. ‘ Move forward 3 cards’, ‘turn’ ‘move backward 1 card’ etc.
After each instruction, the ‘robot’ will move and then the child will have to make a decision as to what the next instruction should be.
This can also be done with a coding robot toy.
Importance Of Coding![]()
*A New Language*
Language teaches children communication skills and improves critical thinking. Language is the foundation stone for both verbal and written skills. When a brain learns a language it expands to new heights and perspectives.
*Constructive Perspective* Teaching coding to kids is important because it instils a problem-solving attitude in children and students.
*Builds Problem Solving Attitude* The best way to learn how to code is to start at home with whatever you can get your hands on, coding creates an overall problem-solving attitude,
*Getting Ready For The Future* The things they are learning today will make an impact tomorrow. Don’t hassle over the thought of why coding is important just introduce your kids to the world of coding and Programming. This way they will have a strong foundation of Programming knowledge by the time they will be out there looking for a job.
*There are many ways to learn Programming* and to find the best way to learn how to code*, all you* need is a *good mindset and will to learn* you can visit pre primary section of our hasti school to see how tiny tots use BEE BOT.
