Reading is important because it makes you more empathetic, and knowledgeable and stimulates your imagination.
Reading is always rewarding. It can make you a unique person, whether you are an orator, presenter, or creator. It can lead you to a world of imagination and a realm of opportunities. Reading is an exercise for the brain; it helps you to calm down your thoughts, opens doors to new knowledge, and improves your vocabulary and oratory skills.
Recognising the importance of reading Our Hasti school launched the projects;
1. DEAR ( DO EVERYTHING AWAR & READ )
2.HASTI VACASPATI Where in daily, before retiring to bed there is family reading in which all family members assemble in a room
any one member will read, a paragraph or two or a page , loudly for 5 to 10 min. and ALL other will listen* (next day next member will continue Where from the earlier one has left. A book could be any story book, biography, science fiction , any age appropriate periodical, mythological stories etc. VACHASPATI AWARD WILL BE GIVEN TO THE FAMILY FOR CONSISTANT READING.
Books play a quintessential role in every student’s life by introducing them to a world of imagination, providing knowledge of the outside world, improving their reading, writing and speaking skills as well as boosting memory and intelligence.
However we find that there are many children who are not interested in reading , I Still remember short story my teacher told me to generate interest in reading the story goes as under ;
Raymond didn’t want to learn how to read. So many letters stuck together seemed like an enormous bore to him.
He couldn’t understand why so many adults and other children enjoyed reading so much.
He kept an eye on the letters and couldn’t see anything of interest happening. He preferred hearing stories about monsters and horrible beasts.
One day, he went to Mr. Maskell’s Fancy Dress Shop. He loved that shop. Mr Maskell could create the most amazing monster outfits, and every year there were many new ones, even when it must have been really difficult to make each one*. That day the storeowner was reading, and this caught Raymond’s attention.
-“Why do you read so much, when books say nothing interesting?”
-“What do you mean?”
answered Mr. Maskell.
-“*It’s obvious, they say nothing about monsters or beasts”,
added Raymond*.
-“I can’t believe it!”
exclaimed Mr. Maskell, surprised.
“I still haven’t told you my secret?”
Then he showed Raymond the book he was reading.
-“What do you see here?”
*Reluctantly, and with some difficulty, Raymond started reading it.
-“No, no! Not like that. You have to see all of it. If you want to get it, you have to step back a bit, and even maybe turn your head a bit. Do you now see anything different*?”
Right that second Raymond saw it: The lines and letters of the page formed a big picture which reminded him of a dinosaur! An enormous smile spread right across Raymond’s face. He started turning the pages, and discovered many other creatures traced out by the length of the lines. They were on the right, on the left, everywhere…
-“Well, now you know how I can invent so many monsters”,
said Mr. Maskell, winking.
-“All you have to do is read that page and then look at the shape of the lines to find which kind of monster is hiding there. Did you know that everything has something special about it? You just have to know how to find it.”
Raymond left, excited by his new discovery. From then on, it was unusual to see him without a book in his hands, looking for whatever the page was hiding, and hardly realising that he was learning thousands of new things as he did so.
It is established after research that *Early reading encouragement leads to improved comprehension and cognitive skills in children. While learning to speak is innate, a newborn who is exposed to language on any given day will learn to speak and respond. While mastering reading requires instruction, researchers have proven that reading engages numerous parts of the brain, including visual processing, language comprehension, and responding.
In support of the National Institute of Child Health and Human Development, the National Reading Panel stated that reading implies five fundamental components: phonemic awareness, phonics, fluency, vocabulary, and comprehension.
Here are some suggestions for improving and fostering a reading habit:
• Magic 20: Invest at least 20 minutes per day in reading with your children and you’ll read 1,800,000 words each year, which is a significant milestone in vocabulary development.
• Read for pleasure! Allow your students to choose their favorite book and find a reading nook where they can read without distraction. It perpetually promotes reading as a beloved pastime.
• Reading aloud is always beneficial! Reading aloud enhances listening skills; reading-related discussions may construct meanings, connect ideas and experiences across texts, and improve comprehension, which is a great way for students to use prior knowledge and reach unfamiliar words from the text. Plan a reading-along session once a week to motivate listeners to develop into active readers.
• Reading responses and literature circles: Reading response and literature circle books allow readers to interpret and acquire more insight and comprehension by planning a variety of activities such as illustration, depiction, word hunts, creating connections, and so forth.
• Our Hasti school organises the weekly and monthly display of titles of books of the interest of children( class wise. )
• Our Hasti school teachers ask children to write and read in class room the review of book/periodical /news paper they did read during the week.

• Books make students intelligent.
• Books improve memory.
• Books relieve the stress of students.
• Books improve your writing skills.
• Books introduce us to things and perspectives.
• Books help in self-improvement.
