1.You just hold the book in front of your eyes. Your attention is elsewhere. or  2.You will know only if you concentrate your mind.  etc are very common utterences of worried teachers &  prents  for their  students and their wards                                                                                                                                                                                                 Why do parents feel like this, the main thing is that children have the question of how to concentrate and parents have tension about how to increase the concentration of children.

●Today let’s shed some light on Concentration.

Children’s concentration is not like that of adults, but if the mind is habituated, given training, the concentration span can increase.

 ●The first question is

1) How long is the concentration (Attention span) of children?

How long can children stay focused on something?

The answer is that each child’s concentration depends on that child. Concentration is individual. It is different according to each child. According to neuroscientists, as children grow up, concentration (Attention span) increases.

According to experts,

The average concentration of children according to age is as follows

(average concentration span by age)

Ag attention span

4 years 8 to 10 minutes

5 years 10 to 25 minutes

6 years 12 to 30 minutes

7 years 14 to 35 minutes

8 years 16 to 40 minutes

9 years 18 to 45 minutes

10 years 20 to 50 minutes

11 years 22 to 55 minutes

12 years 24 to 60 minutes

●This is a generalization. It is minimum to maximum attention span. It can increase according to children’s habits. In children with ADHD, learning disability, this attention span is less because it is an attention related disorder. In fact, when children cannot concentrate, it is a problem. Very disturbing for children.

 ● However, concentration is very important for children. It is okay for children to lose focus once or twice, but if a pattern is forming, it is important to take note.

Now let’s see how to increase the concentration span of these children?

1) Divide children’s study time into small chunks.

So that the children will not get bored. Ten minutes of one type of study will be enough for young children. That is, if you don’t want to stop the study, you can take such a sequence that for every ten minutes you can listen, read, write, recite, write down notes or main points, think, draw diagrams. Same in English

(listening, reading, writing, memorizing, notes, thinking, drawing) If there is such variation, the concentration increases gradually.

2)Study meeting for children in big classes is of course more but divide it into small parts. Like 30 minutes. And let them use different study skills. Just reading, writing, reciting can reduce the concentration of children. Variety is very necessary.

3) When done in small parts, the brain gets refreshed. If there is a new method, enthusiasm increases. Baby steps increase the confidence of children. Let’s call it brain break. For this, finding ideas and activities and using them is useful.

4) Children can be fast finishers. Like last time you wrote this in four minutes. Now let’s challenge yourself that you can do it in three minutes.

5) A short break of five minutes is necessary in between while studying. This refreshes the mood of the children.

6) When there is no study, physical activity can be necessary. Having these active games is very beneficial.

7) Give children at least three to ten minutes of mindfulness practice every day.

8) Play memory games.

9) Make sure that the sitting area is comfortable, has enough light and free air.

10) It is definitely beneficial to let the children do the following activities once they understand.

1) Threading the needle.

2) Playing phases of the ball.

3) Counting the sticks in the firebox.

4) Drawing Rangoli

5) Paint a picture

6) Staring at the candle

7) Bungaling of cards.

8) Making a sand castle

9) Making Lego shapes

Be it studies or sports, or any activity, the more practice we give to children, the more useful it will be to increase their concentration.

Finally, note that

Concentration

comes out

of a combination

Of confidence

And hunger.

Like any skill, concentration can be improved and made automatic. The trick is to be consistent. Thesse above  tips to increase concentration power are a win/win solution because they not only help improve concentration but also strengthen the relationship that you have with your child.
